AFL $25,000+ Swans v Magpies Line-Up

Sam Reid

These two sides have had some close encounters in Sydney and both come into this clash 0-2 . If you were hiding under a rock this week, it is also Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin’s 250th, meaning many will be hoping he turns it on again like he did last week.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $25,000+ Swans v Magpies competition

Forward

Sam Reid ($8,650)

I really wanted to put the Budweiser in, but there is just too much value to be had in the forward line for this contest. Reid was a force to be reckoned with in his 100th game, booting six of the Swans 13 goals for the night. The Pies don’t exactly have the greatest tall defenders, meaning young Henry Schade may be given the job, or his brother Ben. Sam Reid is the face of AFL Live 2 for a reason (a reason I have been questioning for several years, thank god AFL Evolution is coming out) so don’t be surprised if he reins in another bag.

Will Hoskin-Elliott ($8,250)

If Hoskin-Elliott continues to score well, I am just going to have to keep selecting him. WHE was one of the Pies better performers in their loss last weekend with a lofty total of 124 Draftstars points. Currently the wingman averages 109.5 points per game, providing plenty of value considering he is scoring over 13 points per $1,000 you are spending. Now that’s Draftstars value for money.

Midfield

Adam Treloar ($16,450)

Treloar has been at his ball-winning best this season, already getting his hands on the Sherrin 68 times. The blond bombshell has also averaged a colossal 126 Draftstars points per game in 2017 and is ranked seventh for total points so far. Hard to look past him considering he scored 117 points in the last meeting between the two sides. Treloar is the most expensive player in this contest, but choosing not to select him may come back to haunt you.

Scott Pendlebury ($15,900)

Like Treloar, Pendles has been able to find the footy with ease despite Collingwood’s two losses to start the season. The skipper is averaging 122.5 Draftstars points and has a good record against the Swans. He did score just the 84 points in their last encounter, but the previous two times he amassed totals of 113 and 152. You will be laughing your way to the Draftstars bank if he hits 150 on Friday night.

Jake Lloyd ($13,800)

Lloyd looks to have that rebounding defender role sewn up for the Swans, performing very impressively last weekend. The Swans defender was the leading ball winner on the ground against the Bulldogs with 34 disposals and 113 Draftstars points. Lloyd scored 110 points in Sydney’s last matchup against the Pies, and I’d say he is a chance of scoring another commanding total. Sydney towelled the black and white on that occasion and it might well happen again, allowing Lloyd to pick up some lazy possessions across half-back.

Tim Broomhead ($7,400)

Broomhead played his first game of the season last weekend and didn’t exactly set the world on fire, scoring 48 Draftstars points. However, I think he has a better potential output than youngster Oliver Florent at the same price. At the age of 22, Broomhead will be intent to keep his spot in the line-up, so he should give all he’s got on Friday night. A 60 or 70 point score would suffice here.

Jeremy Howe

Defence

Jeremy Howe ($12,800)

Howe is full of confidence, flying for hangers and pulling them down like it is nobody’s business over the first two rounds. Jeremy will be absolutely livid that one of his marks didn’t get nominated for one of the best three for the round. Expect him to continue taking marks in defence, just as he was required to do against the Bulldogs in Round 1, scoring 114 Draftstars points. We aren’t exactly spoilt with defensive options for this one, so he appears to be our best bet.

Nic Newman ($6,400)

Nic Newman was one of the Swans three debutants last week and looked solid, posting 77 Draftstars points from his 17 disposals. The mature-aged recruit averaged 28 touches in the NEAFL last season, so it is clear that he knows how to find the footy. Of these 28 per game, 20 were kicks, which bodes well for his Draftstars output. I like his chance of scoring in that 60-80 mark, which will give us extra cash to splash on the aforementioned midfielders.

Ruck

Sam Naismith ($9,750)

Choosing to spend cash elsewhere has meant that I can’t afford Brodie Grundy, instead opting for Sam Naismith. Cal Sinclair will share ruck duties with Naismith after the injury to Tippett, but I can see Naismith doing the majority. Naismith is a better tap ruckman than Grundy and should be able to keep up with him around the ground considering the SCG is half the size of a regular oval. Don’t expect any miracles, but Naismith should perform solidly.
