AFL $25,000+ Eagles v Swans Line-Up
These sides have had their fair share of blockbusters. Can you believe Leo Barry’s mark was over 11 years ago? I still have Stephen Quartermain’s “Leo Barry, you star!” stuck in my head. This should be another absolute cracker, and it looms as a must-win for the struggling Swans.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $25,000+ Eagles v Swans competition
Forward
Elliot Yeo ($13,050)
Elliot Yeo’s first two games were among the best in the competition, averaging 26 disposals, 16 kicks, 12 marks and 110 Draftstars points per game. With quality tall defenders at either end, Yeo should score higher than Buddy and Kennedy for mine. Elliot is notorious for being on and off, hence why many call him the ‘Yeo-Yeo’ but he is a form player. Managed 81 points in the wet last weekend in conditions that didn’t suit his marking in defence.
Will Hayward ($6,750)
Hayward has made a sterling start to his career to date, with 16 disposals in his first game and booting three majors last week against the Pies. For a medium tall forward, Hayward impact at ground level is impressive and even laid six tackles in his debut. There isn’t much value in the forwards so I am hoping the youngster can get around the 70 mark like he did in Round 2.
Midfield
Dan Hannebery ($15,600)
Hannebery’s alcohol-free pre-season was put into question after two poor games to begin the season – statistically his worst start to a year since 2009. He responded in fantastic fashion against the Pies, amassing 125 Draftstars points from his 31 disposals and 9 tackles. Can see Hannebery’s form continuing at the large expanses of Domain Stadium, where his elite fitness will take over and enable him to gather a multitude of possessions. Scored 102 points against the Eagles in their last encounter and I think he will go past this on Thursday night.
Sam Mitchell ($14,900)
Sam Mitchell had a pretty impressive first half last week but from then on did bugger all. Although I watched the whole game and didn’t notice a tag, Hardwick said after the game that they looked to lock down Mitchell after half-time and it proved successful. Stars of the competition bounce back from these kind of games – just look at Gary Ablett Jnr’s performance last weekend. Mitchell thrives on Thursday night clashes like these and should produce the goods.
Jake Lloyd ($13,800)
Like we have said with a number of other players, why stop picking them until they underperform? Jake Lloyd has proved to be a formidable selection over the first three rounds, averaging 102 Draftstars points per game. Lloyd is relishing the role as the Swans’ #1 distributer out of defence and has notched up 34 disposals in his past two matches. On current form, the Sydney defence will have their work cut out for them against the Eagles so expect Lloyd to have no trouble getting the ball in his hands.
Robbie Fox ($6,450)
Robbie Fox lives up to his surname as a crafty inside midfielder and small forward. Scored just the 37 Draftstars points in his first game but posted 69 points in his last hitout. This is probably the sort of total to expect from him, considering he is adept in the clinches and tackles – laying seven against the Pies. He is as cheap as they come, so he should prove to have greater reliability against the Coasters than the likes of Florent.
Defence
Zak Jones ($10,800)
Jones bounced back from a poor showing in Round 2 to score 87 Draftstars points against the Pies. Jones is perhaps the best defender in the contest, with few expensive and trusted Draftstars defenders at our disposal. He is trusted with ball in hand, claiming over 20 disposals in each of his appearances in 2017, and does occasionally push into the midfield, giving him the greatest scoring potential of the bunch. Let’s hope he doesn’t pull out another total in the 50s.
Nic Newman ($8,000)
Can see this guy being a Draftstars favourite until his price eventually rises. Newman posted 93 Draftstars points last weekend, giving him tremendous value at his price of $8k. The 24-year old half-back flanker is adept at getting his hands on the footy and has even snagged a goal in his first two games of footy. Newman has fit into Sydney’s back six comfortably and has already shown he can break that 90+ barrier.
Ruck
Sam Naismith ($10,050)
We aren’t exactly spoilt for choice in the ruck so I’ve decided Naismith is the best of what we’ve got. Expect Naismith to comfortably defeat Giles and Vardy in the ruck duel and have the upper hand around the ground as well. Cal Sinclair shouldn’t be too much of a threat to steal his points as Naismith will get the majority of ruck time, exemplified by his 31 hitouts to Sinclair’s 14 last week.
