AFL $25,000+ Sunday Line-Up

It is yet another Draftstars Sunday and is there a better way to end the weekend than to share in $50,000? The games on offer may not be ones for the time vault, but there are certainly some handy Draftstars players on offer to give us some vested interest for these one-sided affairs.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $25,000+ Sunday competition

Forward

Tim Broomhead ($8,000)

We recommended this Broom-headed lad last weekend and if you jumped on, you would have been laughing. Broomhead gathered 26 disposals on his way to a total of 97 Draftstars points. This is emphatic considering he is priced at a measly $8k. Even with the return of Varcoe and Greenwood, Broomhead managed to find himself playing outside midfield. This is arbitrage

Dan Butler ($8,000)

Like Broomhead, Butler is another value option that can help us splash cash elsewhere. Butler kicked two fantastic goals last weekend – one from a blistering 80m run up the wing and the other a Jackie Chan goal in the goalsquare – and managed to post 65 Draftstars points in wet conditions. Up against Brisbane, expect him to get on the end of a couple and provide adequate points for his price.

Midfield

Dustin Martin ($16,500)

Most would have thought, “surely Dusty can’t kill it again after a fractured cheekbone”. Well, he did just that on Saturday afternoon. Martin had a ridiculous 33 kicks from his 40 disposals, amassing a herculean score of 155 Draftstars points. He also had a lazy 15 clearances and managed to slot a couple of goals. Although the Brisbane midfield is its strongest asset, it is likely Dusty will have another field day this weekend.

Dayne Beams ($14,050)

He is under a bit of an injury crowd but Beams remains at a discounted price after missing all but two games last year. Already he is back to his ball-winning best, averaging 113 Draftstars points per game including a 124-point effort on the weekend. Beams scored 113 points in his last game at the ‘GABBA and I’d expect him to produce similar against the Tigers.

Jack Steele ($11,800)

After going missing in the first half at Domain Stadium in Round 2, Steele managed to lay nine tackles and collect 18 disposals, scoring 92 Draftstars points. The thing with Steele is he doesn’t need a big possession count to get a decent score, averaging six tackles per game in 2017. Sunday’s matchup against the Pies should be a battle fought mostly in the midfield, where there should be many repeat stoppages. Backing Steele to exceed that 90 point mark.

Hugh McCluggage ($8,150)

The omission of Jake Barrett has forced our hand a touch, but we’ve gone for young star Hugh McLuggage. With 56 Draftstars points on debut, the number three draft pick looked comfortable at the elite level. At this price, anything resembling 70 would be a win, and given the kid’s talent, we’re happy to put our faith in him.

Defence

Tom Cutler ($11,150)

Many wouldn’t know Tom Cutler from a bar of soap, but I’ve been very impressed by this man’s intent to take on the game and get his hands on the footy from half-back. Cutler has a raking long kick that he uses often, and has even been entrusted with kick-outs. So far, all three of his games have been within the 70-80-point range, sporting an average of 76 Draftstars points per game. I have a feeling he may go higher than this on the weekend.

Eric Hipwood ($7,700)

Even I have to admit, this is a bizarre choice, considering he scored just TEN Draftstars points last week. But as we know, young key forwards are inconsistent, and I think Hipwood will bounce back this weekend. With Rance likely to be taking Schache, it means Astbury should be dealt the job on Hipwood. This selection is fraught with risk but as they say, you have to risk it to get the biscuit.

Ruck

Stefan Martin ($14,250)

Stefan Martin appears to be back to his barnstorming 2015 ways, averaging 116 Draftstars points per game. He comes up against Nankervis on the weekend who got beaten by Giles and Vardy in the hit-outs last weekend… By my calculations, Martin should send him to the cleaners and notch up at least 40 hitouts. Considering he also has claimed 20 disposals in every game this season, Martin looks to be an extremely safe bet to score well on the weekend.
