AFL $25,000+ Bombers v Magpies Lineup
ANZAC Day footy is just on the horizon and boy, is it exciting. Last year we didn’t have much to smile about, with the topped-up Dons losing by 70 points. 2017’s edition should be a lot tighter, which makes footy and Draftstars all the more enjoyable.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $25,000+ Bombers v Magpies competition
Forward
Jamie Elliott ($8,300)
Compared to Connor McKenna priced at $9k as a forward, Jamie Elliott is an absolute bargain. Elliot played his first game back from injury against the Saints, scoring just the 34 Draftstars points, but this is to be expected considering he hadn’t played in 589 days. The Pies have been lacking genuine targets inside 50, and Elliot should be able to provide a bit of spark on ANZAC day.
Tim Broomhead ($7,800)
I’ve opted to go cheap in the forward line, and I’m hoping Broomhead can get a decent amount of the footy. He has managed to average the 63 Draftstars points per game, but he did post 97 in Round 3 against the Swans. Broomhead fell below 50 in his two other games, but this is a new game. There isn’t much value in the midfield, so hopefully he doesn’t disappoint.
Midfield
Dyson Heppell ($14,400)
Heppell is coming off a game he’d rather forget, scoring just the 66 Draftstars points against the Crows. After Worsfold’s comments that the returning Bombers have ‘hit a wall’ of sorts, the Dons will be keen to respond, and no one will be keener to rectify his performance than the skipper. Is a smoky to take out the ANZAC Day medal in my eyes, and should be back to his best for this occasion.
Levi Greenwood ($12,400)
The lack of midfield rookies and indulging in an expensive ruck has forced me to jump on Levi. The 28-year-old had a poor outing last week, scoring just the 52 points in their loss to St Kilda. He returned a score of 88 in his first game back in Round 3, and perhaps a lockdown on Merrett will allow him to spend more time around the footy. Greenwood tackles which is a good asset for Draftstars, and I expect this matchup to be one that is hard-fought in the clinches.
Daniel Wells ($11,500)
Who thought we’d fiiinally see the day that Daniel Wells pulls on a Collingwood jumper! After a pre-season hampered by injury the former Roo is now in, and should inject plenty of class and pace into the Pies midfield. We saw last year that when he gets continuity in his footy, he is a gun. At his cheap price of $11.5k he is too hard to pass up.
Tom Phillips ($11,150)
Phillips missed due to illness last week but has started season 2017 is fine fashion. The running machine posted a Draftstars ton in his last outing, scoring 103 points from 27 disposals and five tackles. Phillips should be able to get his hands on the footy for the Pies in a must-win game for the club. I think he will run his opponents off their feet.
Defence
Jackson Ramsay ($10,000)
There is a real shortage of defence options, so I have put my faith in a bit of a POD. Jackson Ramsay has been decent without setting the world on fire, averaging the 65 Draftstars points in 2017. Has scored 62 and 69 points in the past two weeks and if he can lift that to a total around the 70 mark, it’d be a pretty good result.
Andrew McGrath ($8,700)
Oooh ah, Andrew McGrath. That doesn’t actually work considering he has told the media it is pronounced ‘aph’ rather than ‘ahh’, but anyway… McGrath took out the Round 5 Rising Star after his 29 disposals and 90 Draftstars points against the Crows in their big loss. I’d expect the #1 draft pick from last season to take a lot of confidence out of this performance and put in another good showing on the big stage.
Ruck
Brodie Grundy ($15,550)
Grundy is in some fantastic form, averaging 117 Draftstars points per game in 2017. He has also scored 39 points per game from hitouts (1 hitout = 1 point) along with 20 disposals. Mason Cox comes in, so this may slightly limit his ruck time, but he should still have an absolute field day against Matthew Leuenberger, who isn’t exactly the best ruckman in the league. I’d backing him to exceed the 120-point mark – as he has done two times already this season.
