AFL $30,000+ Saturday Line-Up

Welcome to Draftstars Saturday, where we will see the greatest ruck battle of the millennium. No, not Todd Goldstein vs Max Gawn. Instead, we will see premier ruckman Tom Boyd and Todd Elton fight it out on Saturday night, in what will be an insult to the art of ruckwork. There are a few other matches on too. Enjoy.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $30,000+ Saturday competition

Forward

Shaun Higgins ($12,150)

Higgins put on an electrifying display last weekend, getting his hands on the footy 28 times, laying six tackles to amass a score of 117 Draftstars points. The walking injury has only had the one week on the sidelines, a late out with hamstring soreness. Higgo thrives at Etihad, scoring 86 and 119 in his past two appearances there this season. Shame North are playing at bloody Blundstone Arena… Nonetheless, he should go well.

Touk Miller ($10,550)

Speaking of value for money, enter Touk Miller. After scoring two Draftstars tons in the first three weeks, Miller fell away scoring two scores in the 60’s. Despite 88 points last week, his price is still discounted, making him the perfect selection. I’m predicting the Touk-Touk to post an admirable total against the Cats at Metricon, the venue where he scored his two hundreds in 2017. Also, I love a man who wears his socks up.

Midfield

Scott Pendlebury ($15,000)

Pendlebury said on his Instagram story that he ‘wasn’t injured, just played s***’ on ANZAC Day. He certainly put those injury whispers to bed last weekend with a sterling performance, amassing 141 Draftstars points from 33 classy disposals, nine tackles and a goal. Carlton is a favourite of Pendlebury’s for years, scoring totals of 118 and 124 points against them last year alone. He is lowly priced for what he can produce – to put it in perspective, Sam Menegola is $50 more expensive than him… Jump on.

Joel Selwood ($15,550)

While we saw the aforementioned Scott Pendlebury light up the MCG, Selwood was shadowed by Levi Greenwood all day and stunk it up. Selwood managed just the 17 disposals and 60 Draftstars points. But as we were saying about that man Pendles last weekend, the Cats skipper doesn’t play two bad games in a row. Comes up against the Suns next weekend who he shouldn’t have too much trouble with. Still averaging 116 despite his poor game.

Josh Caddy ($10,000)

Saw an article today saying that Hardwick is going to give Josh Caddy some more midfield time, so here he is. Josh Caddy hasn’t done much to prove he is more than a bit part player, only reaching the 20 possession mark once to date in his first season at Punt Road. In his defence, he has been playing more of a high half forward role, hence why he has dropped to a measly $10k. If Hardwick is true to his word, Caddy should provide some value on Saturday.

Brad Scheer ($6,800)

Brad comes in for his first game for the year after some strong NEAFL form, averaging 20 disposals and five tackles per game. Funnily enough, the Gold Coast academy selection was bid on by Geelong in last year’s draft, the side he comes up against on Saturday. I asked one of the coaches to describe his form to date, and they turned to me and said: ‘Scheer brilliance”. Awful, just awful. Let’s hope he fares better than that gag.

Defence

Rory Laird ($15,400)

Laird has been gathering possessions at will this year, averaging 32 disposals and 109 Draftstars points in 2017. He does his best work when Adelaide get comfortable wins, illustrated by his 112.3 point three-round average against the likes of Essendon, Gold Coast and Richmond. This week the Crows have another soft matchup in the Roos, who only got their first win last weekend. The conditions under the roof will suit Laird’s style, and he is every chance to hit that 110+ mark once again.

Tom Williamson ($8,250)

Tom Williamson has become another cog in the emerging Carlton backline, playing his fifth career game this weekend. The youngster is averaging 63 points per game, posting his highest score (71 Draftstars points) last week against the Swans. Williamson looks comfortable at AFL level, and tends to kick more than he handballs – a handy asset for Draftstars. A good cheap option for your defence.

Ruck

Tom Boyd ($6,500)

I have opted for the bargain basement ruck option for this contest. I generally don’t do this, but considering Boyd is up against Todd Elton and Ivan Soldo on Saturday night, there is plenty of value in this selection. Ivan is making only in for his debut as a replacement for the suspended Toby Nankervis. I’d back Boyd to get a total of 60+ easily – and considering 10 points for every $1k is a good mark to reach, you’d take that any day of the week. Is only averaging the 49 Draftstars points but he will go above and beyond this weekend.
