AFL $30,000+ Saturday Line-Up
I tell you what, forget the match in China. The biggest blockbuster of the round comes on Saturday night; the Powercor COUNTRY match! Get excited to see the Cats and Dons play in jumpers decorated with grains of wheat, as we celebrate everything great about country footy. There’s also a few other games on as well.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $30,000+ Saturday competition
Forward
Luke Breust ($10,350)
Luke Breust hasn’t had the greatest year in Draftstars, averaging just the 65 points per game. In fairness to him the Hawks have struggled, but they come up against the Lions at the famous University of Tasmania Stadium on Saturday. I expect Breuuuust to get off the chain and kick a few joe-the-goose snags out the back – his bread and butter. Should be able to produce a reasonable total for his cheap price.
Blake Hardwick ($8,600)
Blake Hardwick has impressed since entering the Hawthorn side, being somewhat of a surprise packet in Hawthorn’s demise. The youngster has averaged 63 Draftstars points in his four games this season, sporting a three game average of 68 points – all three scores exceeding 60. The Hawks trust the ball in this kids hands, and I’m backing him in to reach a solid score against the Lions.
Midfield
Tom Mitchell ($16,950)
Why not chuck another Hawk in the mix? Tom Mitchell and Draftstars go together like gin and tonic, as he just finds footy for fun. Titch is averaging a lazy 34 disposals, seven tackles and 125 Draftstars points this season, proving to be one of the best ball-winners in the competition in Hawks colours. Has fallen under 120 points on only one occasion this year, scoring a measly 115! Safe as houses.
Dylan Shiel ($12,600)
I have had to go a bit cheap in the midfield, and Dylan Shiel has the potential to go large against a weaker Collingwood midfield. Shiel has averaged a modest 92 Draftstars points to date with just the one ton, despite averaging 27 disposals. Without Adam Treloar and perhaps even Scott Pendlebury in the guts for the Pies, the Giants should be able to get on top, meaning Shiel will be winning plenty of footy. Have been selecting Callan Ward each week and he’s been nothing but disappointing, so… time to hope another Giants’ mid steps up.
David Myers ($8,200)
David Myers played his first game back in one and a half years last Sunday afternoon. The Bomber started well but faded late, winning a paltry 13 disposals and 41 Draftstars points. We can afford to cut him some slack I reckon, and he will be much better for the run. Myers should improve on this against the Cats in the BLOCKBUSTER country game.
Jarrod Berry ($6,450)
Jarrod Berry is at a fairly low price for someone named on the ball for this weekend. The first round draft pick has averaged a measly 44 Draftstars points in his first five games, but his last two efforts have been reasonable. Berry has scored 68 and 55 points in big losses against Port Adelaide and Sydney, and appears to be settling in to the rigours of AFL footy. Should be able to get another total around the 60 mark.
Defence
Heath Shaw ($12,700)
Heath Shaw has experienced quite a price drop so far this season, starting the year around the 15k mark. Now, you can pick him up for a discount price of $12.7k. Some may say Zach Williams is stealing Heath’s thunder, but he is still averaging 85 Draftstars points per game, and 94 in his past three. Should be fairly free patrolling the backline at Spotless Stadium, where the Giants are expected to dominate a Treloar-less Collingwood (and perhaps Pendles pending the possible birth of his child?).
Caleb Marchbank ($10,000)
Caleb Marchbank has proved to be a remarkable pickup for Blues and a handy Draftstars selection throughout the year. The young intercept defender has averaged 79 Draftstars points per game, with a low score of 67 in 2017. Marchbank has posted his two highest totals for the season in the past fortnight, scoring 89 and 84 against Sydney and Collingwood. He should perform well under the roof at Etihad, pristine conditions under the roof for him to clunk marks.
Ruck
Stefan Martin ($14,150)
In recent times I have looked to spare cash in the ruck and splash cash elsewhere, but not this time. Stef Martin has been in some stellar form in 2017, falling under 100 on just one occasion and averaging 110 Draftstars points per game. This is largely due to his 41 hit-outs per match, accounting for over a third of his weekly scores. Big Stef comes up against Big Boy McEvoy in the ruck who he should smash in the hit-out department. Tassy is a windy arena too, meaning there will be plenty of stoppages, or deliberate out of bounds’.
