AFL $20,000+ Power v Hawks Line-Up

Both sides played in close games last week with polar opposite results. The Hawks escaped with a fairytale win with Roughy kicking the decisive goal, whereas the Power were perhaps an umpiring decision away from getting the chocolates at the Cattery. And for the record, Dixon will be at the ground 12pm on Thursday to ensure he has enough time to prepare for the matchup.

Forward

Robbie Gray ($11,250)

Rumour has it this man is still being held by Jed Bews back in Geelong. If he does manage to take the field on Thursday night, look out. Gray loves playing against lower ranked sides at Adelaide Oval, posting mammoth Draftstars totals against Fremantle (138 points and 6 goals) and Carlton (124 and 5.4). The question is, are Hawks really a poor side? They showed plenty against the Swans last week in their win, but I expect him to justify that cheap price tag.

Blake Hardwick ($7,950)

Hardwick has proved to be a reasonable point scorer this season (except three weeks ago). His price dipped after a meagre 21 Draftstars points against the Lions, mostly due to the fact the ball was mostly in their forward half. Since then, the young Hawk has scored 72 and 64 in the past fortnight, and looks to be the most reliable rookie defender of the bunch.

Midfield

Luke Hodge ($13,850)

Speaking of reliable, Luke Hodge has had a very consistent Draftstars season across half back, averaging 24 disposals and 94 points per game. The four-time premiership player has gone under 80 on just one occasion this season, making him a solid option for this contest. If the Power are at their rampaging best and home, I’d expect the ball to be in the Hawthorn’s defensive 50 for most of the night, giving Hodgey ample opportunity to rack up stats.

Ollie Wines ($13,750)

It seems the bye was exactly what the doctor ordered for Ollie, claiming 31 disposals on his way to a promising total of 111 Draftstars points. He also laid eight tackles, his highest count for the season. This was Ollie’s first Draftstars ton since the Showdown in Round 3, sending his price from below the $13k mark to just below $14k. Josh Kennedy was left alone last weekend against the Hawks and I can see the same happening with Wines this weekend.

Karl Amon ($10,500)

Draftstars have recommended I make a formal apology to the community. I went with Karl Amon last week in the Cats vs Power contest as my most expensive forward and it backfired. Backfired is a gross understatement, with the young Power outside runner scoring a dismal 43 Draftstars points against the Cats. He’s got some easier opposition this week though, and he generally performs well against poorer opposition.

James Cousins ($8,650)

Youngster James Cousins made his Hawthorn debut last weekend and did a very nice job, scoring a very modest total of 66 Draftstars points. The nuggety midfielder looked to cope with AFL standard just fine, so I think he is a cheap option for us going forward. Laid the six tackles which is always good for a bit of extra points.

Defence

Shaun Burgoyne ($11,450)

If it hadn’t been for Buddy’s emphatic display last Friday, Shaun Burgoyne would have had the Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal draped around his neck. Burgoyne was outstanding, and his Draftstars total of 100 doesn’t truly reflect his influence on the game. This was his first ton for the season, and I reckon this may play him into a bit of form after scoring just the 43 points a fortnight ago.

Jackson Trengove ($9,600)

Jackson Trengove has been fairly serviceable in 2017, scoring over 63 Draftstars points in his past six matches. His past three scores have been 64, 64 and 63 – now that’s a good standard deviation. I feel like the Hawthorn defence will struggle with the Power’s tall forward, which should enable Trengove to snag a couple while forward. Trengove has been getting around 7-10 hitouts a game when he rotates there which Is handy as well.

Ruck

Ben McEvoy ($12,700)

Between Ryder, McEvoy and Trengove, it is logical to pick the player that will be doing the most rucking (ie. the lone ruckman, I’m not counting Tyrone Vickery as one). I also already picked Trengove, so that rules him out. Funnily enough, McEvoy’s season average of 96.3 is the same as his three round average. Interesting. Not really relevant to anything, but nonetheless, McEvoy has been a great Draftstars contributor this season. Shouldn’t let you down.
