I’m seeing double… four Giants. GWS and the GWS seconds side will play their highly touted intra- club match on Sunday afternoon, that the footy world just can’t wait for. Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $20,000+ Blues v Giants competition

Forward

Dale Thomas ($10,150)

Dale Thomas returns to the Carlton side after a stint in the VFL. Scott Selwood was asked during the week whether he would tag Dale Thomas when they played them, to which he replied “I’m not sure when we play Northern Blues next”. Gold. Thomas responded pretty well too, and I expect him to do the same on the field so he can continue to actually get games. Scored 30 in his last one but had two 80’s in his two games before that.

Liam Jones ($7,550)

I never thought I would say, ‘Liam Jones has turned his career around’. I also never thought I’d select him in Draftstars, and never thought I’d see Jones become the ‘Rance of the VFL’. This world is an unusual place. Jones has been in some stellar form after switching from the forward line to defence, and now gets his chance to prove himself for Carlton. Like Thomas, he has plenty to play for and I suggest he will get plenty of opportunity to get the footy against the Giants.

Midfield

Marc Murphy ($14,850)

Marc Murphy has been as consistent as they come this Draftstars season, averaging 115 points and 30 disposals per game. Murphy had a ‘down’ game in his last match scoring 90 points, and sits below $15k in value. I doubt the Giants will take the Blues skipper, as they should win very comfortably. Murph should have no trouble racking up footy yet again so expect another ton.

Toby Greene ($13,500)

Toby Greene has a reputation for being a bully in more ways than one. It is not just his tendency to get a bit firey, but also his ability to absolutely destroy poor teams. Greene’s first ton of the year came against the Suns, where he had 22 touches and booted five goals on his way to 102 Draftstars points. I reckon a performance like this for Uncle Toby on Sunday.

Tim Taranto ($10,400)

Despite starting the season slow, Taranto has shown why he was selected as the second most talented kid in the country last November. Taranto has had seven straight 60+ scores, including two in the 80’s. The youngster has a three-week average of 78 Draftstars points and I think this is the sort of score we can expect from him against the Blues.

Matt De Boer ($9,350)

Matt De Boer had a reasonable game last week but his tackle numbers were down from previous weeks. De Boer scored 54 Draftstars points from his 14 disposals and six marks, but only laid the one tackle against the Bombers. With Giants expected to come back after the bye, I reckon De Boer will be pretty keen to assert himself as a genuine member of the 22.

Defence

Caleb Marchbank ($10,900)

Caleb Marchbank has been a more than serviceable Draftstars selection this season. The former Giant scored a ripping total of 87 last week, clunking nine marks along with 14 disposals and five tackles. As previously mentioned, the footy is going to be in Carlton’s defensive half more often than not on Sunday, so Marchbank will have ample opportunity to take intercept marks and get valuable possessions. Should has some extra desire to do well against his old side.

Tom Williamson ($8,300)

Tom Williamson has been a solid contributor since debuting for the Blues this season. The left-footer is averaging 58 Draftstars points per game, with a 54-point game from just eight touches in his last match. There isn’t many bargain defensive cheapies in this contest, so Williamson is probably our best bet. Has 17 disposals (including 14 kicks) and 73 points against the Dockers, so he is no slouch.

Ruck

Matthew Kreuzer ($14,600)

I rarely select an expensive ruckman for single game contests but this guy is in some scintillating form. Kreuuuuuuuzer scored a monster 132 Draftstars points in his last game against big Todd Goldstein, smashing him in the hitouts with 46, winning 18 touches and laying nine tackles. This backed up his formidable 119 point performance against Sandilands the week before, another sign of his rise. Mumford was beaten by Tom bloody Bellchambers last week so this should be another big one for Kreuz.
