Twelve Winners Take Home Record BIG 400

Dale Townsend didn’t really know too much about the NBA, until he started playing Draftstars this year. Now he’s $7,532 richer for just $1. Problem is it was looking like so much more.

That’s right, after three months, Australia’s record breaking Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) NBA target prize pool finally was won – problem is that the $158,172 went to not one, but 12 lucky winners who scored more than 400 with their fantasy team.

The first winner across the line was Dale Townsend, who went through all the highs and lows you would expect as his winnings dwindled from a possible $158K to $7,532.

“I went from stoked to frustrated in the space of a few hours. I was starting to think about paying off my car, putting it on the house, those kinda things. But for a $1 outlay at the start of the day, gotta say I’m still pretty happy,” he said

Picking nine players within a $100,000 salary cap seems like a tough ask, but Townsend had a simple philosophy when selecting his team.

“My strategy was quite simple really as I knew the Pelicans and Bulls game was going to be high scoring so Cousins and Anthony Davis were a lock. And with Giannis out for the Bucks Bledsoe was a must have.”

“That’s the beauty of Draftstars. It’s such an exciting way to watch the game. Funny thing is I didn’t really start following NBA until this year, in fact I knew nothing about the sport really.”

The Big 400 Target competition requires Draftstars players, for only $1, to choose nine NBA players on any one day (two point guards, two shooting guards, two small forwards, two power forwards and a centre) within a $100,000 salary cap. Points are scored for each stat accumulated, with the winners crowned if they reach 400 points at completion of all games.

The new Big 400 starts again today with the prize pool $5,000.
