AFL $75,000+ MAGPIES V TIGERS
Plenty of personnel changes since these two sides met in R2 but one thing that should remain constant is the steady flow of fantasy points from both teams.
Eight players cleared the fantasy ton when these two sides last met with three others in the high 90’s.
What was really peculiar was the top 17 scorers in the game were all Magpies. That’s right, the highest scoring Tiger was Nankervis on 82pts.
There is no Beams here, no Stephensen, no Aish, Taylor Adams is playing, Ivan Soldo is playing – there are a lot of different moving parts and the Magpies seem to have fallen off a bit of a cliff, BUT, if there is a team and a stage that can click them back into gear it is the Tigers at the MCG on a Friday night.
Here is my team you can consider using, or building around, for tonight’s $75,000+ Magpies v Tigers contest.
FORWARD
Daniel Rioli ($8,050): Rioli is cheap enough here that even a mediocre game from him wont kill your lineup but he is always capable of a three-figure game especially in a fast free-flowing game like this one. Besides, taking Grundy leaves us with few options elsewhere.
Mason Cox ($7,610): Not sure how many teams will double ruck tonight but i expect it to be a pretty popular combination. Hopefully they both go nuts. Cox will have fond memories of playing the Tigers at the MCG, bank 2 goals and a nice 70+ game from him here.
MIDFIELD
Dion Prestia ($14,090): The meatball just keeps on rolling out scores. The only Tiger midfielders I trust to deliver me over 110+ tonight. Doubt he will be highly owned despite his recent form, and there will be next to no teams with Grundy who take Prestia so I like that uniqueness.
Jordan De Goey ($11,280): Playing de Goey as a mid because i feel he will get plenty of onball minutes tonight in what looms as a must-win for the Pies.
Tom Phillips ($12,640): It’s Phillips, it’s the MCG. I’m not overthinking this one.
Jack Graham ($11,300): Not loving this selection as he can go missing, but Graham is cheap enough that, like Rioli, an 8x game won’t kill the team. I’ll take anything over 80 from him tonight.
DEFENDERS
Jayden Short ($9,550): Pretty savvy spot from the DFR Pod guys regarding Chris Mayne’s likely shutdown role on Houli tonight. Short looms as the obvious beneficiary but i am worried that Dimma will continue to persist with him on a wing in McIntoshs’ absence, instead playing Liam Baker down there. Who knows. I hope common sense prevails.
Isaac Quaynor ($7,690): Would have loved Crisp and his 142pts in R2 looms large in my mind here, but you can’t have Crisp and Grundy and still build a balanced team, so we’re taking the youngster hoping for a value game, which looks very achievable at his price.
RUCK
Brodie Grundy ($17,520): The price tag is getting pretty ridiculous but watch his ownership tonight – i’d be surprised if it was under 40% which is just insane for a player who prety effectively breaks your team. If there was a nice 5k rookie tonight then Grundy would probably be over 70% but as there is not, most coaches face a ‘grundy nuts or bust’ selection option. He should go nuts here, he really should. 20 disposals (50pts), 40 hitouts (40pts), 10 marks and 8-10 tackles (60-70pts), 150+ is well and truly in play.
