The Late Cut: $10k+ Strikers v Sixers
Just because it is New Years Eve does not mean that we get a break from the Big Bash, the Adelaide Strikers host the Sydney Sixers, in what is becoming the traditonal NYE match. In the fixture last year, Travis Head scored a breathtaking century as Adelaide beat the Sixers. This season, both teams have completely opposite starts to their fortunes last season. Minor premiers Adelaide, are sitting bottom and last seasons cellar dwellers are sitting inside the top four. The end of 2016 has never looked better with Draftstars running a $10,000 game with $2,000 going to first place.
Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $10k+ Strikers v Sixers competition:
Wicketkeeper
Ben Dunk ($8,000)
Dunk started his stint at Adelaide with a dominant 85, and backed it up with a duck. Dunk will be opening the batting for the Strikers, so represents a clear value play in the wicketkeeper position. He will get every opportunity to get a big score.
Batsmen
Jake Weatherald ($8,000)
Dunk’s opening partner also represents a good value play. He looked excellent against Brisbane in his first match, but was dismissed cheaply against the Scorchers. Back on home turf, Weatherald can bounce back at the top of the order and get Adelaide off to a fast start.
Travis Head ($27,950)
Last year’s hero, Head has made a slow start to this season’s Big Bash. Maybe it is tonight where his class shines through and he recaptures his blistering form. Head is too good a player to be averaging 18 in this format. He has also been underutilised with the ball, so look for him to get a couple of overs as the strikers look to turn their season around.
Bowlers
Kane Richardson ($15,400)
Richardson was one of the Striker’s shining lights against Perth, smashing 45 off 28 balls in their unsuccessful chase. But it’s not his batting that gets him in the side, Richardson has started the tournament bowling okay, taking two wickets in his two games. He should be bowling at the end of the innings, which gives him a good opportunity to take a few poles and deliver another big score.
Chris Jordan ($17,400)
English international Chris Jordan has been super consistent in his two matches so far. He has four wickets across two matches, scoring 76 and 64 DS points. Jordan will be heading off to India soon to meet up with the English ODI team, so he will be keen to go in good form. Jordan is also an elite outfielder, so he might be able to bob up with a catch or run out.
Allrounder
Johan Botha ($10,450)
The new Australian, Botha has been in sensational form this Big Bash, averaging 70 DS points. He has been a weapon with the ball, really restricting opposition batsmen with his inviting, yet deceptively crafty off breaks. Botha brings immense experience to the T20 game and there is no reason why he cannot continue his strong form here.
Flex
Doug Bollinger ($12,100)
The rugless Doug has been in great form so far this Big Bash, taking four wickets in his three games. Whilst he has been quite expensive, it is his wicket taking ability that gets him in the team. Adelaide’s batting lineup has been a little bit shaky so far this tournament, if there are any cracks tonight, Doug will be there to open them up.
