The Late Cut: BBL $8k+ Hurricanes v Thunder

bellerive-high-a6

The Big Bash continues tonight with the Hobart Hurricanes taking on the Sydney Thunder. Both teams have not played with the consistency that they would have liked so for in BBL06, but they have time to turn things around and make a run for the finals. That run needs to start tonight if they have any chance. Draftstars will be running an $8,000 game for this match, with $1,600 going to first place.

Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $8k+ Hurricanes v Thunder competition:

Wicketkeeper

Tim Paine ($17,500)

Paine has been a real shining light for the Hurricanes so far this season. He has dominated at the top of the order, scoring 218 runs in his four innings, averaging nearly 72 DS points. Paine can continue his good form here, up against a lacklustre bowling attack that has relied on Pat Cummins to take wickets.

Batsmen

James Vince ($14,250)

The Thunder have lost their leading run scorer, Eoin Morgan for the rest of the season, but have added Vince who has also played international cricket for England. Vince is an elegant batsman who has played seven tests matches. Hopefully he is able to hit the ground running. At least he should feel a home facing Stuart Broad.

Beau Webster ($11,750)

Webster exploded onto the scene in the Hurricane’s last match, blasting an impressive 67 from 43 balls, scoring 114 DS points. That innings was the only time that he has been required to bat in BBL06, the most impressive thing about it was that he came in under immense pressure and counterattacked, leading Hobart to post a competitive, but ultimately too small total. Webster may be in line for a promotion up the order on the back of that.

Bowlers

Pat Cummins ($15,250)

Cummins is showing everyone why he has such high wraps about him. He has been dominant in BBL06 so far, only taking 5 wickets, but bowling at extreme pace and control. He has not scored under 60 DS points in any match that he has played so far. Cummins time with the Thunder is limited as he has been selected in Australia’s ODI squad which start ver shortly. Cummins would like to leave in good form, so back him here to rip through the Hurricanes.

Clive Rose ($10,000)

Perhaps the most unlikely looking cricketer in this season’s Big Bash, the bespectacled Rose is an experienced spinner, who is deceptively difficult to face. He often bowls in the power play against batsmen who prefer facing seam bowling, which means he can rack up dots. Rose is a good value option for this match.

Allrounder

Carlos Braithwaite ($16,500)

The Thunder have also lost their most explosive player, Andre Russell, to a hamstring injury. They have secured a brilliant replacement in the form of West Indian T20 captain, Carlos Braithwaite. Braithwaite is a bowling allrounder who is also a destructive batsman, capable of clearing the rope for fun. Like Vince, the Thunder will be hoping he hits the ground running.

Flex

Kurtis Patterson ($11,500)

After a slow start, Patterson is starting to find a bit of form. In his last match, Patterson scored 28 off 18 balls on his way to 54 DS points. Patterson is a talented batsman on an upwards spiral, if the Thunder are to have any chance of making the top four, he will have to make a significant contribution at the top of the order.
