AFL $20,000+ Bulldogs v Swans Line-Up
After a shock first round loss the injury ravaged Swans have the opportunity to turn it around in the Grand Final rematch. We have two star-studded line-ups and some value selections at our disposal for what is going to be a riveting contest. Strap yourself in for an absolute belter.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $20,000+ Bulldogs v Swans competition
Forward
Tom Boyd ($9,200)
We all remember how good this guy was last time he played the Swans, scoring 96 Draftstars points in the Grand Final. However, without Jordan Roughead as number one ruckman, we will probably see less goals and more hitouts. Boyd scored a woeful 37 Draftstars points last week up against Brodie Grundy, but he should fare better against Sam Naismith (who I have also chosen as a selection, funnily enough). Likewise when he pushes forward, he should make an impact against the weakened Swans defence. Who knows – BT may even be able to see Boyd kick another goal from inside the centre square. Let’s hope he controls his excitement this time around.
Sam Reid ($8,000)
A forgotten commodity, Sam Reid played his first game since the Qualifying Final in 2015 last weekend and looked fresh as a daisy. Reid returned 83 Draftstars points from his 13 disposals, seven marks and three goals. The key forward worked well in tandem with Buddy last week and the same should continue against a relatively small Bulldogs backline. He is also coming up for his 100th game this weekend –could we see him score 100 points in his 100th game?
Midfield
Josh P. Kennedy ($15,400)
Josh Kennedy had the Norm Smith sewn up at half-time in the Grand Final last year. Kennedy has scored tons in his past three matches against the Bulldogs, including a massive 139 Draftstars points in the Grand Final. The man is simply a ball magnet, and I can’t see the Doggies stopping him in the coalface. Posted 118 points last weekend in their shock loss to the Power, so even if the Swans don’t win, he should do the job and then some.
Jake Lloyd ($13,500)
In fantasy circles Jake Lloyd is known as a ‘point of difference’, but I suspect by season’s end this won’t be the case. Lloyd is now the Swans number one rebounder out of the 50, especially now considering Dane Rampe has broken his arm jumping over a chain, which is incidentally more believable than De Goey’s tall tale. The 23-year-old scored just 73 in the Granny, but I’d be expecting something around the 90 mark on Friday night.
Tom Liberatore ($12,850)
Libba thrived on the defensive stuff last week, nearly recording more tackles than disposals. His 14 tackles got him 56 of his 102 Draftstars points, and I predict him to put the same emphasis on tackling against the likes of JPK, Parker and Hannebery. He was played a bit up forward last week but he should be in the guts winning clearances on Friday night. I like Libba as an option considering he beat teammates Dahlhaus, Hunter and Bontempelli last weekend with a 115-point effort.
Jordan Foote ($8,000)
Jordan put him best Foote forward last weekend with 58 Draftstars points. At $8k he is a cheap option for our midfield, and I see him being a better option than Oliver Florent, who scored just 37 points against Port Adelaide. Kicked the 0.2 and had three frees against, so his score could have been around the 70 mark. This is what I am expecting Foote to produce against the Bulldogs, who will be looking to ‘stamp’ his place in the Sydney 22. Let’s hope he can do a lot better than my gags.
Defence
Matthew Boyd ($13,800)
Jason Johannisen was rampant last weekend, and Matthew ‘helmet head’ Boyd scored a modest total of 87 Draftstars points. After JJ’s Norm Smith medal-winning performance against the Swans last time, they are surely going to put a bit of time into him. Plus, how can they miss his two minute noodle hair-do? I can see Boyd benefitting from JJ being locked down, making him the main ball-user across half-back for the red, white and blue.
Zak Jones ($9,550)
Can see this youngster breaking out big time this year. The younger brother of Dees skipper Nathan Jones scored 96 points against the Power from 25 disposals a goal last weekend. He may not be at the level of Nathan, but he certainly has the same appetite for the contest. Looks set to spend a fair bit of time in the Swans midfield too, which makes him a bargain at under $10k for mine. Jump on.
Ruck
Sam Naismith ($9,650)
Hitouts are a fair point-accumulator in this caper, and I expect Naismith to be a class above Boyd in ruck contests. Naismith managed 34 hitouts against Paddy Ryder last weekend, who is no slouch as a tap ruckman. He could well hit the 40 mark if Tippett stays out of his way, which should be able to help the him get to a score of around 80 Draftstars points. Yes, I do realise I have picked both Boyd and Naismith, but this is because ruckman can accumulate ‘gimme’ points through hitouts without having to rack up as many disposals. I am backing Boyd to win around the ground and Naismith to be the clear winner in ruck contests.
