AFL $20,000+ Eagles v Cats Line-Up

Home is where the heart is, as they say, but it couldn’t be more true for the Eagles. Or more correctly, they leave their hearts at Domain Stadium – a pretty vital organ for ball sports and general life. This match should be a ripper and with both Hawkins and Kennedy missing, it might be a bit of a tight and low-scoring contest (from a scoreboard perspective, not Draftstars).

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $20,000+ Eagles v Cats competition

Forward

Elliot Yeo ($13,300)

Elliot Yeo has been a Draftstars star this season, averaging a formidable 108 points per game for the Eagles. His form has been scintillating at Domain Stadium in particular, tonning up in all five of his game at the venue. In fairness, every West Coast player performs better at home due to their fear of flying (ironic for an Eagle). Kicked three last week playing forward, but no matter where he plays – floating half-back, on-baller or up forward – he should produce the goods.

Drew Petrie ($9,900)

Drew Petrie has been a reasonable contributor since returning from injury. The 33-year-old rookie has posted Draftstars scores of 84 and 74 over his last two games as a ruck forward, and is better than his average of 68 points suggests. Petrie had 21 hitouts compared to Vardy’s 14 in their last match against Gold Coast, highlighting their increased reliance on him in the middle. Reliable selection in my eyes.

Midfield

Joel Selwood ($16,350)

Joel Selwood has been absolutely prolific over the past three weeks, averaging 32 touches, five tackles and 118 Draftstars points. The man has come into his own, even managing to gather 35 possies in his last game with a hole in his head. Selwood has played at Simonds Stadium the past three weeks so he may not produce as dominant a performance, but he should be raring to go fresh off the bye.

Dom Sheed ($11,400)

Dom Sheed is beginning to deliver on his potential on a more consistent basis. Dominic racked up 30 disposals in his last game against the Suns, topping the Eagles scoresheet with 126 Draftstars points. Of these middle tier players he has the best ceiling, and is winning more of the footy of late. Sheed has three 95+ scores in his past score and I can see him doing nicely on the wide expanses of Domain Stadium.

Cam Guthrie ($9,950)

Cam Guthrie has underperformed this season, averaging just the 64 Draftstars points in his eight games – 16 points less than his 2016 average. He has just the two scores above 70, an uncharacteristically low amount for a player of his ability. This match should be a close one, and Guth generally excels when the game is on the line.

James Parsons ($6,550)

We are quite short on options here and after Jordan Cunico was dropped, the only other cheapie in the equation was James Parsons *collective groan*. Parsons is averaging just the 48 Draftstars points this season, including a less than impressive total of 27 last week. This is the second time he has scored 27 in 2017, but I expect him to get a better score this week. If he can return to the form of his first two games (62 and 76) he will be well worth the investment.

Defence

Jeremy McGovern ($10,700)

Jeremy McGovern has been a clunking machine this Draftstars season, averaging eight marks per game. That’s 24 Draftstars points purely from marks, which makes him a very attractive option considering Geelong is without Tom Hawkins. McGovern’s highest score of the season came against the Dockers who have no real notable forwards, pulling down 13 marks along with 22 disposals and 98 points. High reward sort of selection this one, and he has posted 80’s in his past two games.

Tom Stewart ($8,550)

Tom Stewart has fared well over his past two games, recording totals of 69 and 74 – well above his seasonal average of 51 Draftstars points. Since being dropped from the team for a week he has appeared to have lifted his game, growing in confidence by the week in the Cats defence. He is perhaps the best value defence cheapie we have at our disposal, and I can see him reaching another solid score.

Ruck

Zac Smith ($12,800)

Zachariah Smith has become somewhat of a favourite of mine over the past three weeks. He has averaged 104 Draftstars points across this period but this is of course included his mammoth 148 against Tom Boyd. Smith comes up against another makeshift ruck combo in Vardy and Petrie on Thursday night and I expect him to dominate them. Could be another monster score on the cards here.
