AFL $20,000+ Swans v Bombers Line-Up

The Swans would like their chances in this one after knocking off the Bulldogs a fortnight ago at the SCG. However, the Bombers surprised the football community with their outstanding performance against the Power in their last hitout. Isn’t a great deal of cheapies, so you may be better off with a mid-price sort of setup for this one.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $20,000+ Swans v Bombers competition

Forward

Lance Franklin ($13,400)

Lance Franklin has been a relatively good scorer this season, averaging 95 Draftstars points while the Swans have underperformed. Buddy was towelled by Alex Rance last week and still managed 61 points, including a ridiculous 5 frees against – albeit a familiar sight next to his name. The Budweiser has a good history against the Bombers – we all remember that run down the wing against Cale Hooker. Has kicked 16 goals from his last three games at the SCG.

Callum Sinclair ($10,350)

Callum Sinclair had a very average game last week against one of the poorest tap ruckman in Toby Nankervis, Sinclair scored just the 49 Draftstars points with four frees against, which put a dent in his scoring. He scored 89 points against the Bulldogs last time he played at the SCG, and will face Tom Bellchambers on Friday night. I like his and Naismith’s chances (funnily enough, he is in this writeup too!) of putting together good scores, at a venue where there are generally quite a lot of stoppages.

Midfield

Isaac Heeney ($14,050)

Isaac Heeney has looked the goods since returning from his bout of glandular fever, averaging 98 Draftstars points from his eight games. The Heen machine has churned out five tons across this time, including two in the past three games. He appears to getting a very good run in the Swans midfield and is bobbing up to kick goals while forward. Is perhaps worthy of a nod over Hannebery/JPK/Merrett to free up cash elsewhere.

Luke Parker ($13,650)

Luke Parker has had a very disappointing Draftstars season after nearly just shy of 110 points in 2016. The blond bombshell has gone at just 91 points per game, with just the two tons for the year. Parker looked like he’d turned a corner when he posted 108 against the Bulldogs a fortnight ago, but backed it up with just 83 against the Tigers. He plays again at the SCG, and with this being a very winnable game for the Swannies, I reckon he will justify his price.

Jake Lloyd ($11,550)

Hold the phone, wasn’t Lloyd at $12k last week? Lloydy has appeared to go down in price despite scoring 91 Draftstars points against the Tigers. This is due to his concussion affected score of 2 against the Hawks, which has him sitting at a very favourable price. This week a pair of Apple brand shoes were found at a garage sale and are reportedly worth $48,000, which serves as a fitting metaphor for Lloyd in this contest. Bargain.

George Hewett ($9,650)

Cameron Ling, Kane Cornes… George Hewett? Georgie boy has become a tagger, performing lockdown roles on Jason Johannisen and Dustin Martin in recent weeks. His tag wasn’t very significant on Dusty a week ago, but it did mean he spent more time in the guts. I think he is our best chance of scoring well as a cheapie. Scored 74 Draftstars points against the Tigers.

Defence

Andrew McGrath ($10,450)

Oooh ah, Andrew McGrath. Many are talking up Ryan Burton’s chances, but I’d say this bloke has the Rising Star draped around his neck at this stage. The youngster has fared well in Draftstars this season, averaging 74.5 points per game including four 85+ totals. The ball may be in Essendon’s defensive half for most of proceedings, so McGrath should get opportunity to get his hands on the footy.

Heath Grundy ($8,450)

I am breaking my Draftstars and perhaps more broadly, my fantasy golden rule: no key position defenders. But with the news that Cale Hooker is sidelined with a dislocated finger, I can see Grundy getting on top in the back half. It is likely that inclusion Lewis Melican will go to the athletic Joe Daniher, which means Grundy should be able to work off his direct opponent to take marks in defensive 50. Posted 86 points a fortnight ago against the Bulldogs.

Ruck

Sam Naismith ($8,350)

Sam Naismith is the cheapest ruck on offer and I think we have to take him considering the lack of cheap options elsewhere. The big man with one of the rudest hairdos in the business is going at a decent clip of 61 Draftstars points per game. Like Sinclair he didn’t score too well against the Tigers, posting just 54 points. Should get a solid total for his price against Bellchambers, though.
