AFL $20,000+ Tigers v Magpies Line-Up

Scott Pendlebury
For the second week in a row, traditional rivals will do battle on Thursday night. Winning a share of $20k from this Thursday night’s Draftstars contest would be one thing that would top it, perhaps. This encounter looms as a tight contest, meaning we may have to keep our sides fairly even-handed.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $20,000+ Tigers v Magpies competition

Forward

Will Hoskin-Elliott ($7,550)

Hoskin-Elliott impressed in his first appearance in the white and black, collecting 22 disposals, eight marks and a goal on his way to a total of 95 Draftstars points. We touted him as an option last weekend, and from what I saw in Round 1 he justifies the $7,550 price tag. Don’t expect him to hit that 95-point mark each week, but he should punch out a 70 at least.

Dan Butler ($6,400)

The little speedster had a fairytale start to his footballing career last Thursday night, booting two goals and scoring 72 Draftstars points. I don’t think Butler is going to set the world on fire again, but there are very few cheap options in other positions. If he can manage to snag another goal or two, he should be able to get to that solid 60+ point score. However, if he plays any better than his debut, we may have a Thursday night specialist on our hands.

Midfield

Dustin Martin ($15,600)

Speaking of Thursday night specialists, this guy was emphatic last weekend against the Blues. His 139 Draftstars points probably don’t do him justice for what many pundits claimed was the best game of his career. It is not just his recent form that has tempted me to bring in the midfield gun, however. He has scored 114 and 110 points in his two matches against Collingwood last season and hasn’t fallen below 105 in their last five encounters. I like those odds. Lock him in.

Scott Pendlebury ($15,700)

Scott ‘dePendlebury’ was sensational last Friday night, notching up 135 Draftstars points against the Bulldogs. Was stiff not to receive the medal for best on ground too, I reckon. Pendles has slipped under the radar a touch with the likes of Treloar and Adams in the midfield, so he may not be as popular on Thursday night as you might think .The Pies skipper rarely has a bad game, but he has failed to post tons in his last two matches against Richmond. I’m predicting him to end this streak on Thursday night.

Josh Caddy ($12,700)

The former Cat opened up his Draftstars account pretty poorly last weekend, but I am expecting him to bounce back against the Pies. Caddy seemingly missed out last week with Tiger debutants Prestia, Nankervis and Butler all playing well for the yellow and black. Consequently, the 24-year-old should have some extra fire in his belly for this encounter. Managed 99 points against Collingwood last season, but can he go one higher this time and raise the bat for an illustrious Draftstars ton?

Reece Conca ($10,100)

The former #6 pick was struggling to get into the best 22 last season, but appears to have slotted himself into a half-back role. Conca is a good user of the footy and will be trusted by his Tiger teammates with the ball in his hands. An 84 Draftstars points effort last week may be what we should expect from him on a week-to-week basis, and I feel he provides plenty of value.

Alex Rance

Defence

Alex Rance ($10,950)

Rance was a bit of an anomaly last weekend, struggling to even get near the footy. Carlton’s forwards didn’t need much defending, but the All-Australian defender will be disappointed with his nine disposal effort. I am expecting Rance to have a much bigger impact with Collingwood’s midfield driving the ball inside 50 to Rance’s likely opponent Darcy Moore. He will have much more opportunity to get the ball in his hands, and scored 97 Draftstars points against the Pies in their last matchup. Rance won’t score under 70 two weeks in a row, surely.

Jackson Ramsay ($9,850)

Picked this fella as a bit of a smokey last weekend and it paid dividends, pumping out 82 Draftstars points. I am backing him in once again, as I feel he is a touch undervalued considering he is $300 more than Taylor Hunt – who I wouldn’t touch with a Draftstars ten-foot pole. Young Ramsay should remain under the radar again this week, making him a cheeky point of difference for our sides.

Ruck

Toby Nankervis ($10,350)

Many will choose Grundy, but I can see Toby as a value option in the ruck.
‘Nank the tank’ put in a decent showing in his first game as a Tiger, scoring 84 Draftstars points. In the JLT, Nankervis came up against Grundy and he won the hit-out battle 18-14, and scored just the 20 points less than his more experienced opponent. In my eyes, Nankervis is a better tap ruckman, meaning he should be able to score around the same as Grundy for $4,350 cheaper. A bargain if Grundy doesn’t have a major impact around the ground.
