AFL $25,000+ Kangaroos v Saints Line-Up
When I asked one of my mates earlier in the week who was playing Friday night, I was not expecting to hear ‘North Melbourne vs St Kilda’. Two non ‘big-4’ Melbourne sides on a Friday night is generally a no-no, but here we are. This game will be closer than many think, which means any player is worthy of a selection in this one.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $25,000+ Kangaroos v Saints competition
Forward
Mason Wood ($9,750)
There is not a great deal of cheap options in this contest, so I’ve had to go with more mid-pricers, which brings Mason Wood into the line-up. Wood has had an up and down season – perhaps drawing inspiration from teammate Jarrad Waite – scoring a 127 but also a 33 in 2017. The blond bombshell has averaged just the 50 Draftstars points across his past two games which has seen his price depreciate. Should get onto the end of a few and is a good POD selection.
Jake Carlisle ($8,850)
Jake Carlisle’s score last week resulted in a chorus of laughter about the Draftstars community. ICYMI, Carlisle managed a pox, woeful, disgusting score of 17 Draftstars points against the Crows, Carlisle only clunked two marks and got his hands on the footy just five times, but this performance gives us opportunity. Instead of picking a rookie, we can get a proven marking defender who had a five round average (before last week) of 73 points. I’d expect him to have a solid outing at Etihad – prime conditions for his dukes.
Midfield
Seb Ross ($15,000)
Sebastian is the logical selection as our first midfielder considering he has been tearing Draftstars to shreds over the past month. Ross has averaged a stellar 117 Draftstars points over the past month, with a possession low of 30 during this period. The former tagger has also been doing the job on the defensive end, twice laying eight tackles in his last four matches. Without any other standout midfield options, back this fella in to rack ‘em up again.
Sam Gibson ($12,150)
There are two things we know about Sam Gibson – that he has not missed a game since making his debut (a statistic we are reminded of each week by commentators) and that he loves playing at Etihad Stadium. This is probably due to the fact that he is a bit of a ‘seagull’ – a player who loves getting it on the outside of the contest. Gibson’s two tons for the year have been at Etihad, and he posted 93 Draftstars points against the Tigers in his last game at the venue.
Blake Acres ($10,700)
Blake Acres has been a player who has surprised in some games this season. Acres has a seasonal average of 81 Draftstars points but has managed two tons in the last five weeks, both of which were at Etihad. However, he scored just the 49 points last week in the Saints’ drubbing at the hands of the Crows. This sees him at a price of $10.7k, which gives him plenty of value if he goes large.
Ryan Clarke ($9,600)
Ryan Clarke has been a picture of consistency despite averaging just the 65 Draftstars points this season. The youngster has a low score of 58 and a high score of 77 points, which is a very decent standard deviation for a player of just 19 years of age. As I was searching for his age, I stumbled upon the fact that his 20th birthday is on Saturday. That should give us all the more reason to select him in your side. Hope you celebrate with a Draftstars ton on Friday night, mate!
Defence
Dylan Roberton ($12,950)
We have long talked about Heath Shaw’s remarkable kick to handball ratio, but here is a man that is looking to catch him. Dylan Roberton is averaging 20 kicks per game in 2017 and just the six handballs, which is a significant reason why he is averaging 103 Draftstars points per game. The Saints defender thrives at Etihad, posting scores of 98 and 121 in his last two games there, and should be in for another big one against the Roos.
Aaron Mullett ($9,400)
Aaron Mullet is also in here due to the lack of rookie options at our disposal, but he another who should perform better under the dome. Mullett has a raking left foot kick which I reckon will be utilised across half-back on Friday night. A slump of late has seen Mullett’s price decrease a fair amount, but a high-score of 93 Draftstars points gives me hope that he can produce the goods.
Ruck
Billy Longer ($11,300)
Billy Longer has reinvented himself in his past two matches as a player who can record hitouts AND get the ball… However he still doesn’t like kicking it, with just four of his 33 disposals during this ‘purple patch’ being kicks. As a consequence of his totals of 84 and 125, we are grabbing him at an inflated price, but I’d say this is better than picking a half-cooked Todd Goldstein at 14k.
