AFL $25,000+ Sunday Line-Up

Sunday marks the last Derby to ever be played at Subiaco Oval. Oh, unless a miracle happens and the Dockers somehow make the finals. Wouldn’t really surprise me this year, though. The Bulldogs may extend their hangover against the Blues, and the Tigers will plan to show up to Etihad this week against the Lions.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $25,000+ Sunday competition

Forward

Sam Kerridge ($12,350)

Sam Kerridge has been in sensational Draftstars form since entering the Blues side. The past fortnight has seen Kerridge churn out two tons, averaging 31 disposals and 109 points per game. While Carlton supporters would be frustrated with the decision making and poor disposal from this bloke, we can rest easy knowing that each of his turnovers are getting us points.

Nathan Vardy ($10,100)

Nathan Vardy couldn’t carry his stellar last five minutes against the Bulldogs into last week, scoring just the 56 Draftstars points while sharing the ruck duties with Scott Lycett. But surprise, surprise, Lycett is out injured again, meaning Vardy is up against young Sean Darcy on Sunday afternoon. He is a talented youngster don’t get me wrong, but Vardy will be worth more than his $10k price tag suggests in this one.

Midfield

Kane Lambert ($13,900)

I generally go with a ‘set and forget’ midfielder as my first mid, but I’m feeling adventurous. Kane Lambert if flying under the radar somewhat, considering he is averaging 28 disposals, seven tackles and 120 Draftstars points in his past three games. The mature-age recruit is relishing his extended stints in the midfield and should have another big one against the lowly Lions.

Dom Sheed ($11,250)

One of my favourite Draftstars selections let me down last week. Dom Sheed posted a meagre 49 Draftstars points in the Eagles loss to the Power, collecting just 15 disposals. You are lucky I am a very forgiving person, Dominic. The youngster has fallen $1.3k in price after this effort, which makes Sheed a decent get considering he has averaged 107 from his previous five games.

Anthony Miles ($10,050)

Anthony Miles returns to the Tigers line-up (finally) after banging the door down in the VFL all season. In fact, his form is that emphatic that he has pretty much knocked over the whole house. The recruitment of Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy has left Miles starved of opportunity, playing just the two AFL games this year. He backed out a putrid 37 point effort in his last game, but I’d expect him to give his all so he isn’t straight back in the magoos.

Nick Suban ($9,800)

Nick Suban is an interesting selection as he is prone to some absolute stinkers. The Docker has been playing a tagging role of late, which served him well a fortnight ago. Suban racked up 27 disposals and scored 96 Draftstars points against the Saints. He followed it up with just 10 disposals and 59 points, getting to that mark thanks to 10 tackles. Lyon is hard to read, but I’d expect him to put Suban on Luke Shuey and play through the midfield all day.

Defence

Alex Witherden ($11,150)

It is like this kid has played 50 games already, such is his composure and ability to win the footy. Alex Witherden has averaged 24 disposals and 85 Draftstars points across his first three games, having no trouble getting his hands on the footy across the half-back flank. Up against the Tiges at Etihad on Sunday afternoon, the ball should spend extended periods in the Lions back-half, meaning Witherden should produce another good score.

Nick Vlastuin ($7,700)

Nick Vlastuin returns to the Tiger side alongside old mate Miles at a discount price. Vlastuin has not played since the Bulldogs game due to injury, returning through the VFL. His last three totals have been under 50, which is why we see him at a heavily discounted price of $7.7k. Vlas reached 91 Draftstars points in Round 1, so he is capable of producing good totals. Will be keen to assert himself, and I just can’t say no.

Ruck

Stefan Martin ($13,550)

Draftstars players rejoice: Archie Smith has been dropped! That means we will have big Stef up and about taking 90% of the ruck contests. This is where Martin thrives, and lately his form has been pretty poor. Stef has registered just one ton in the past month, but I expect him to amass a monster score against The Nank. Scored 114 earlier in the year against the Tigers, 51 of which were from hit-outs.
