AFL $25,000+ Tigers v Demons Line-Up

Nankervis, Toby I am really looking forward to this clash, although I probably shouldn’t be considering I am a Tigers supporter. The Dees always seem to have our measure – besides the time Jordan McMahon kicked that winning goal after the siren in the match of the century. If this game is half as good as that one, we should be in for a cracker, folks.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $25,000+ Tigers v Demons competition

Forward

Toby Nankervis ($10,350)

Toby Nankervis had his colours lowered by Stefan Martin last weekend, registering just the 17 hitouts but still managed a solid total of 72 Draftstars. Has fallen below the 80-point mark in the past two weeks, but I expect him to beat Jake Spencer around the ground. He isn’t really much of a high hit-out ruckman, so he will probably lose in that department. Nonetheless, he probably has the most scoring potential for a forward at his price-tag.

Dan Butler ($8,000)

Dan Butler has been a welcomed addition to the Tiger forward line, kicking six goals and averaging 16 disposals and 64 Draftstars points per game. Should be able to get out the back and kick a couple of cheapies, or even run 80m with five (don’t know for sure) bounces into goal like he did against the Coasters. Since Dan Butler made his debut, the Tigers haven’t lost… Coincidence?

Midfield

Jack Viney ($15,000)

Viney tore the Tigers to shreds last time he faced them, racking up 37 disposals, nine tackles and 134 Draftstars points. The young gun has had a slow start to year, averaging just the 88 points and reaching the ton just once. I’d be backing the Dees co-captain to go large in this one, especially with Dustin Martin under injury concern. Huge game for both sides, and Viney should rise up to the plate.

Trent Cotchin ($14,750)

While this guy is often critiqued for not performing when it matters, Cotchin was Richmond’s highest ball winner the last time the two teams met. Captain Cotch had 32 disposals and a team high 110 Draftstars points. With a Dusty Martin injury cloud/possible late out, Cotchin will have to step up in the centre square to fill the void. Has had a solid season to date, with a score of 119 against the Pies when he played a ‘captains role’. Can see him putting in this sort performance on Monday.

Clayton Oliver ($13,900)

Clayton Oliver has been absolutely crucial for the Dees in the coalface. Last week he was superb again in their shock loss to Freo, claiming 26 disposals, 10 clearances and 99 Draftstars points – his lowest total for the season. Considering he is currently averaging 117 points per game, he is an absolute bargain. A night game will see his skin protected from the sun – meaning he is even more likely to hit another ton.

Christian Petracca ($11,050)

Despite spending most of his time as a high half forward, Petracca has remained ultra-consistent. In fact, he has scored between 86 and 92 in all of his four matches. He has fantastic hands for his size and has managed to kick at least a goal a game and average 21 disposals per game. Considering his last four rounds, I like his chances of hitting yet another 80+ total.

Oliver, Clayton

Defence

Michael Hibberd ($9,250)

Michael Hibberd comes in for his first AFL game since 2015 and comes in at an absolute BARGAIN basement price. Old mother Hibberd has averaged over 80 in his past three seasons, and notoriously loves to kick – a great asset for Draftstars. It will be interesting to see what kind of role he plays in the Demon defence, but he is too good to pass up at that price for mine.

Jason Castagna ($8,650)

Castagna is just one of the Tiger’s small forward mosquito fleet, along with the aforementioned Dan Butler and Daniel Rioli. ‘George’ scored the 92 Draftstars points from his four goals, and looks to be growing in confidence by the week. Yes, he isn’t playing Brisbane every week, but he is one who should kick a couple against the Dees. Is a defender due to his stints across half-back last year.

Ruck

Jake Spencer ($8,800)

How good was it to see this guy snag a couple of goals last week! To many people’s surprise, Spencer was one of Melbourne’s best players last week, recording 13 disposals and 15 hitouts on his way to 77 Draftstars points – not a bad effort against the monolithic being that is Aaron Sandilands. Coming up against The Nank who couldn’t buy a hitout against Stefan Martin last week, I like him at a cheap price. Will do 75% of the ruckwork and should punch out a 70+ score with ease.
