AFL $30,000+ Saturday Line-Up
Welcome to another Draftstars Saturday! We are already feeling the negative effects of the China game, with Port and Gold Coast’s bye meaning we have one less game to choose from than usual. Quite a few cheeky options for us, with a number of players returning from injury and suspension along with some debutants as well.
Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $30,000+ Saturday competition
Forward
Toby Greene ($12,750)
Uncle Toby is the first of a few returning players to feature in this Saturday contest. Greene has apparently even been working with a psychologist to work on his on-field anger so expect a cool, calm and collected Draftstars performance from the lad. Richmond have never done too well against the Giants and I think this will continue, meaning Greene should be able to kick a bag. Loves getting amongst the goals in big wins.
Gary Rohan ($6,400)
After that sickening fall against the Blues, Rohan is back in the Swans line-up at an absolute steal. Rohan scored just 10 Draftstars points in that injury affected match, forcing his already discounted price to fall even more. He is named forward/back but he may also spend some time in defence/forward. He is one who can go bananas at any time, so he too good to pass up at $6.4k.
Midfield
Dan Hannebery ($14,600)
Dan Hannebery appears to have well and truly got his mojo back. The Swans’ star is going at a good click in recent times, averaging 28 disposals, six tackles and 111 Draftstars points in his past three games. Put out a 117 point effort last week at Etihad and there is every chance he will replicate this on the weekend. I can see Hanners continuing his purple patch and should prove to be a fruitful selection on Saturday.
Dayne Beams ($14,200)
Beamer is back in action after a two-week stint on the sidelines with a quad injury. The Brisbane skipper has been a consistent Draftstars performer, averaging 104 Draftstars points with four tons. Scored just the 68 in his last game which has affected his price somewhat, making him a value option. Backing Beams to fill the void of Tom Rockliff and go to another level on Saturday.
Jordan De Goey ($9,650)
Jordan De Goey has eased his way into this season so far, scoring two scores of 60 since returning from suspension. The Hawks have quite a few outs and not much of a midfield, so I can see De Goey lifting beyond what he has produced thus far. On a sidenote, I suspect he may have had a word to Dyson Heppell during the week, after hearing Hepps excuse for his cut hand…
Hugh Greenwood ($6,400)
Hugh Greenwood was upgraded from the rookie list last week and many thought he’d get his opportunity in Round 7. Not to be, with the former basketballer instead making his debut this week, replacing another former basketballer in Josh Jenkins (did you know Scott Pendlebury also used to play basketball?). Greenwood has fared well in the SANFL so far this season, averaging 24 disposals and eight tackles to date. Looks to be a fantasy friendly rookie and considering he is mature age at 25, he is another good cheap option.
Defence
Rory Laird ($14,600)
There is nothing that young (hard to believe he is only 23) Rory Laird loves more than carving up when the Crows win big. Laird tallied 40 disposals against the Giants, 34 against the Bombers and 33 against the Suns, all games where the Crows won by over 40 points. You’d expect Adelaide to give the Lions an absolute thumping, and again Laird should be up to his usual ball-winning ways. Averaging 108 Draftstars points so far in 2017.
Andy Otten ($9,500)
Andy Otten has reverted to his former position as a tall defence at stages in the last fortnight, reducing his scoring output. Otten is averaging 70 Draftstars points per game but has averaged 60 in the past two weeks, including a score of 49 last week. However, these were in losses, and Brisbane’s chances of winning are as slim as Eric Hipwood’s figure. Should be able to roost a couple through the big sticks and justify his price tag.
Ruck
Shane Mumford ($11,900)
Shane Mumford has been in good form this season, averaging 41 hit-outs per game along with 86 Draftstars points. Mummy hasn’t tonned up in three weeks causing his price to depreciate, making him ripe for the picking given he comes up against Nankervis this weekend. Nank generally doesn’t fare well against good ruck opponents, winning just the 20 hitouts to Sandilands’ 35 in Round 8. As a consequence, Mummy should have the edge and get a promising total
