AFL $30,000+ Saturday Line-Up

Another (bye affected) Draftstars Saturday is upon us, with six teams to pick from in this contest. It really isn’t a great day of footy, and the best way to get through it will be cheering your Draftstars players on. That’s what I’ll be doing, anyway.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $30,000+ Saturday competition

Forward

Tom J. Lynch ($11,600)

Tom J. Lynch has perhaps not lived up to what many thought he would produce this season. Lynch has averaged 82 Draftstars points this season, posting just the two tons. The Suns co-captain is at a tempting price after a score of 36 in Shanghai, and comes up against the shaky Hawthorn defence on Saturday. Charlie Dixon kicked a lazy 5 against them last week, why can’t Lynch?

Jonathon Griffin ($10,200)

With Sandilands out of the side for another week, Jonathon Griffin shoots into Draftstars relevance once again. Griffin managed a very solid total of 89 Draftstars points last week, claiming 13 disposals, laying five tackles and winning 26 hitouts against Brodie Grundy. He didn’t fare so well the week before admittedly, scoring 62 against Sam Jacobs. He faces Stef Martin and Archie Smith this week, and I expect him to reach a reasonable score – especially while rucking against the youngster.

Midfield

Ollie Wines ($14,350)

Generally, I go for a more expensive first mid, but I have opted to spend some extra cash elsewhere. Ollie Wines has been superb the past two weeks, posting consecutive 110+ scores, breaking a five-week drought. The Power come up against a Dons side that lost admirably to the Giants last week, so it should be a hotly contested match. That will suit Wines to a tee, as he plays his best footy when it’s fiery in the middle.

Robbie Gray ($10,700)

Robbie Gray has played almost all of his game-time in the forward line in recent weeks. There are rumours that Robbie is playing with injury which looks to be the case, considering his lack of time in the guts. Gray scored just the 37 Draftstars points last week which is putrid for him, but he is just too good to ignore at that price. Should get onto the end of a few and if he does, he will prove to be a worthy selection.

Jake Barrett ($10,650)

Despite Tom Rockliff returning to the Brisbane midfield, this guy has shown enough to suggest he will continue to spend time in the coalface. Barrett has posted two 80’s on the trot, hitting the scoreboard when forward and tackling ferociously (15 over the past two weeks). I suggest the Dockers vs Lions game will be a pretty ugly one in terms of game quality, so expect Barrett to be lay a heap of tackles and score a solid total for your side.

James Cousins ($8,650)

James Cousins (no relation to Ben) has been promising in hit two games for the Hawks this season. Cousins has posted scores of 66 and 62, averaging 13 disposals and six tackles per game. The youngster being named on the ball this week excites me, and I reckon Clarkson will give him ample opportunity in the middle against the Suns.

Defence

Lachie Weller ($12,900)

Lachie Weller has bided his time across half-back and through the middle over the past few weeks, increasing his disposal count and Draftstars scoring immensely. Weller has averaged 94 Draftstars points over this period, collecting 26 disposals and five marks per game as well. Compared to his seasonal average of 77 points, this appears a lot more attractive. Up against the lowly Lions, Weller should have no trouble getting his hands on the footy.

Jarrod Berry ($8,400)

Jarrod Berry had a bit of a stinker last week, but is probably the best defensive cheapie at our disposal for this contest. Berry had just the six disposals but still managed to score 43 Draftstars points thanks to his six tackles. His four matches prior were all over 55, so you’d think Berry will revert to this kind of form on Saturday.

Ruck

Jarrod Witts ($12,500)

Jarrod Witts has been a fairly consistent scorer as the Suns sole ruck this season. Witts is averaging 88 Draftstars points per game, thanks largely to his 36 hitouts per game. The ruckman’s last ton was against Cats ruckman Zac Smith – who never really dominates the hitout department – and neither does Ben McEvoy. Should get more ‘+1’s than a 21st birthday party on Saturday afternoon.
