AFL $50,000+ SATURDAY Line-Up

One game less than the usual on this Draftstars Saturday, with Giants vs Power looming as one of the games of the round. There is no shortage of quality Draftstars options on offer, with plenty of bargain buys as well as a number of players who look set to explode.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $50,000+ Saturday competition

Forward

Tom J. Lynch ($12,450)

Lynch hasn’t had the greatest start to the year for someone who is apparently the “best in the comp” – according to Jonathan Brown anyway. Even in the Suns massive win last win he only bagged the two goals, still managing the 93 Draftstars points. Against the lowly Carlton line-up, this is the game where I can see Lynch going bananas. He hasn’t hit the illustrious Draftstars ton, and a bag against the young Blues defence on Saturday night should ensure he raises the bat.

Dan Houston ($8,000)

Houston had over double the handballs he’d previously had for the whole season (2 in two games) last weekend, recording five against the Crows. Just not good enough. In seriousness, this new addition to the Port Adelaide defence loves to kick, recording a kick to handball ratio of nearly 6:1 this season. Should get to the 70 point range he has been hitting in his first three games, which you can’t complain with considering his price.

Midfield

Marc Murphy ($14,000)

I don’t think anybody expected the returning Marc Murphy to have this much impact in the opening three rounds. The Blues skipper has certainly led from the front, averaging 33 disposals, seven tackles and a whopping 136 Draftstars points this season. And he is just $14k! He also comes up against the Suns this weekend, meaning he could just as easily pull out another 130-point performance. Can’t be ignored.

Clayton Oliver ($12,550)

This guy is pretty much the opposite of Houston, but his efforts in 2017 have been nothing short of sensational. Oliver has averaged 33 disposals (including 24 handballs), eight tackles and 122 Draftstars points so far this season, an effort that few would have seen coming considering he has played under 20 games in the competition to date. I’d expect Oliver to ton up for the fourth successive week against the Dockers, who surely won’t be able to turn it on away from home.

David Swallow ($11,100)

Swallow reminded us last weekend why he was a #1 draft pick all those years ago. The Sun scored 120 Draftstars points against the Hawks, racking up 34 disposals from just 70% gametime. I can see him going large again against the Blues and considering his price is just $11k, he is an absolute bargain. Should continue to go from strength to strength, and last week’s performance will fill him with a heap of confidence.

Sam Petrevski-Seton ($8,450)

Sam Petrevski-Seton showed some signs last weekend that he will be one of Carlton’s stars of the future. The #5 selection of the 2016 draft racked up 17 disposals and eight tackles in the wet against the Bombers, posting a total of 93 Draftstars points for his trouble. SPS’ tackling will help him get to solid scores even if his possession tally isn’t as high. Is getting enough midfield time from Bolton, so I’m backing him to continue his promising start.

Defence

Jackson Trengove ($11,500)

This is a bit of an interesting one. With Paddy Ryder suspended and Matthew Lobbe out injured, you would say Trengove shoulders the majority of the ruck load against Shane Mumford this weekend. Last year Trengove proved to be an effective scorer as a ruckman, posting seven scores above 90 Draftstars points – scores virtually unheard of for Trengove as a tall-defender. This could come back to bite me if he gets sent to the cleaners by Mumford (hence why I have picked Mummy as well) but his immense tackling, hit-outs and higher number of possessions should make him a worthy selection.

Curtly Hampton ($8,650)

Hampton had his best game in Crows colours (not really hard considering he has played three games for them) scoring 90 Draftstars points in the Showdown. Once again his tackling was a highlight, laying nine of them to go with his 18 disposals. Don Pyke continues to trust Hampton in the centre square, so I see him continuing to provide Draftstars value as a tackling midfielder. If he starts to win more of the footy, even better.

Ruck

Shane Mumford ($12,950)

As I alluded to earlier, Mumford comes up against Jackson Trengove this weekend. Considering the third man up rule, it is unlikely Trengove will have much of an answer in the hit-out department. I can see Mumford racking up 50 Draftstars points solely from hit-outs on the weekend (1 point per hitout) – or maybe even more. His tackling and what possessions he does get around the ground should get him to 100 points comfortably.
