AFL $50,000+ Sunday Line-Up

There is a real shortage of cheap options in this contest, so it is probably best to opt with a mid-price strategy. In fact, I have gone so mid-price mad that I am currently questioning my sanity. All three games loom as close ones, although I thought Friday night’s match would be close too, and look what happened…

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $50,000+ Sunday competition

Forward

Hugh Greenwood ($10,950)

Hugh Greenwood had a disappointing outing last week in the Crows comeback draw against the Pies, managing just the 53 Draftstars points. The contested animal only laid the three tackles as well, a poor return considering he has averaged seven tackles in his nine games. Greenwood’s thirst for the contest should suit the ever fiery Showdown and I expect him to be a pivotal player on Sunday night.

Riley Knight ($9,300)

Young Riley Knight struggled for a place in the side earlier in the season but has strung five games in a row for the Crows to good effect. Knight has posted three 85+ totals in these five matches, with a paltry 39 a fortnight ago the reason for his low price. Scored 93 Draftstars points last week which would be just what the doctor ordered.

Midfield

Sebastian Ross ($14,000)

Sebby Ross has just been going about his business as per usual, churning out a 109 point score last week against the Power. Ross appears to be underpriced in this one, and the only way I can explain that is his sub-par 71 a few weeks ago. Averaging 106 points in his last five games and has the footy on a string week in, week out.

Liam Duggan ($11,300)

I have really liked the look of this bloke in recent weeks. Liam Duggan is averaging 23 disposals and 91 Draftstars points over the past three weeks in defence, a significant rise from his average of 18 touches and 69 points for the season. The Eagles love getting the ball in his hands across half-back, and Etihad Stadium should suit his impressive ball-skills.

Rory Atkins ($11,050)

Rory Atkins is a risky Draftstars selection as he is capable of reaching high scores but is also susceptible to agonising lows. He does absolutely love Adelaide Stadium, though, with scores of 87, 102, 89 and 99 in his past four outings there. Away from home however, Atkins has produced totals of 65, 45, 47 and 60… Lucky he is playing at home in the Showdown on Sunday, as it should mean he has one of his good games.

Karl Amon ($10,000)

Karl Amon played his first AFL game in two months last week and fared well in conditions that didn’t really suit outside players. Amon posted 82 Draftstars points from 20 disposals including 17 kicks. The classy left-footer will be an important cog for the Power in their quest to defeat their cross town rivals, and his last game at Adelaide Oval yielded 101 points.

Defence

Shane Savage ($11,850)

Shane Savage has become a very interesting Draftstars selection. Savage has played just the eight games this season, but has posted three 90+ scores in his past four games. Two of those scores (94 and 106) were at Etihad, a ground suits his ripping right leg. He is undervalued after an average return of 68 the week before and it would be rude to ignore him.

Nick Vlastuin ($10,100)

Nick Vlastuin has been a handy Draftstars option since returning to the Tiger side. Vlas has scored three 80’s on the trot, averaging 19 touches and nine marks across half-back. The red-nut looks to be in a more possession friendly role than he was playing earlier in the season, and remains at a reasonable price. A handy little POD as well.

Ruck

Drew Petrie ($11,450)

Drew Petrie had an impressive Draftstars outing as the Eagles’ sole ruckman last week. Up against Stefan Martin, Drew won 25 hitouts and 13 disposals along with laying eight tackles on his way to 89 Draftstars points. He faces a much easier opponent in Billy Longer on Sunday, one who he should have the better of around the ground. Expect him to rack up plenty of marks around the ground and amass a very promising score.
