AFL $50,000+ Sunday Line-Up

Patrick Dangerfield
What better way to spend your lazy Sunday than enter this Draftstars contest and share in $50,000! The three games on the weekend appear to be one sided affairs, which isn’t bad for us Draftstars folk. You might think there’s only two games on having a look at this lineup, though…

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $50,000+ Sunday competition

Forward

Shaun Higgins ($12,100)

Years of playing fantasy footy has made me shudder whenever I hear the name ‘Shaun Higgins’. However, the injury-prone Roo is just too good to ignore now that he appears to have a permanent role in the guts. Higgins scored 87 Draftstars points on the weekend, winning more clearances than his more-credentialed opponents Matt Priddis and Sam Mitchell. Despite coming up against ‘Dangerwood’ this weekend, Higgins should be the most prolific North Melbourne ball-winner. That’s if he doesn’t do hammy in the first three minutes.

Mitch Hannan ($6,400)

Watched this guy pretty closely last weekend and I like what I see. Hailing from Footscray in the VFL, the 23-year-old goes hard at the footy and the player and has terrific goal sense – illustrated by his second goal against the Saints. Hannan posted 88 Draftstars points on debut and a similar total isn’t out of the question considering the Dees are up against Carlton. A cheapie who looks to be value for Draftstars money.

Midfield

Patrick Dangerfield ($17,250)

Hard to go past a guy who had 48 disposals last time he played North Melbourne. Danger amassed a herculean score of 187 Draftstars points in Round 12 last season, almost single-handedly defeating the Roos. Considering the mass exodus at Arden Street, another big score is on the cards, spelling ‘Danger’ for North Melbourne. You don’t want to be the one without Dangerfield if he scores another 180. But who knows – not including him could set you apart from the rest if he somehow gets shut down.

Clayton Oliver ($11,800)

We go from a current midfield beast, to a midfield beast of the future in Clayton Oliver. The youngster put the fantasy phrase ‘second year blues’ to bed last weekend, ending the match with 36 touches of the Sherrin. His score of 122 Draftstars points was emphatic for his discounted price, and he is staring down the barrel of another 100+ score against the Blues on Sunday.

Alex Neal-Bullen ($9,500)

I’m basing this a bit off last week’s form, along with the fact Melbourne should trounce Carlton. Neal-Bullen played just the four games for the Demons in 2016 but he certainly grabbed his Round 1 match by the scruff of the neck. ANB (it’ll catch on…) tonned up against the Saints with 110 Draftstars points, booting a goal from his 23 disposals. In my eyes, Neal-Bullen will be intent to stamp his place in the Dees best 22 with another strong performance and I can see him getting onto a few on the weekend and more than justifying his $9,500 price.

Sam Petrevski-Seton ($8,150)

Petrevski-Seton was a bit of a surprise call up for Round 1 but the #6 selection certainly showed some potential in his debut. SPS had 11 disposals and laid seven tackles playing predominately in the guts. The fact that SPS came in after not featuring in the JLT means the Blues rate him as a talent, and his tackling ability suggests he can pull a 60+ total without having to get much of the footy.

Max Gawn

Defence

Zach Tuohy ($11,700)

After a strong JLT series at his new club, the former Blue managed to hit the Draftstars ton last week. Tuohy scored 101 points from his 24 disposals and a goal, a performance which once again highlighted his status as the designated kicker out of defence for the Cats. I can see Tuohy getting off the chain against the Roos, who Geelong should defeat quite comfortably. At under under $12k, the rebounding defender is a lock for mine.

Caleb Marchbank ($7,000)

This young buck is going to be a part of the Carlton defence for a long time. The former Giant made his Blues debut last weekend and was thoroughly impressive, scoring 78 Draftstars points from his 19 disposals and eight marks. With the ball expected to be in Carlton’s back half for the majority on Sunday, Marchbank should be able to reach another reasonable disposal tally and provide value for his $7,000 price tag.

Ruck

Max Gawn ($15,250)

Despite an injury worry early in the week, Gawn has been picked to play and I am backing him to monster Matthew Kreuzer. Gawn has eight centimetres on Kreuzer and he absolutely destroyed Tom Hickey last week – one of the few ruckmen that troubled him last year. The third man up rule should help Gawn’s hitout numbers, registering 50 last week. Posted 105 Draftstars points against the Blues last time around, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets to the 120 mark on Sunday
