AFL SUNDAY $40,000+

Tricky little three-gamer and risks must be taken – starting with hoping Carlton don’t continue to absolutely suck.

At some stage the Blues will have a good game and getting St kilda at Marvel on a day where there is some rain about in Melbourne might be the best time to hope for such a game.

There is scant value around today and weather may impact some of the reliable prime movers so across the slate there will need to be very calculated risks at selection.

Here is my team you can consider using, or building around, for today’s $40,000+ contest.

FORWARD

Charlie Curnow ($9,050):Building around the Blues having a good dfs outing starts with big Charlie who can clear 100pts when on. We get him at a good price, in a good matchup, in a game that should be free-flowing and high-scoring.

James Harmes ($13,490): There is weather on the way this afternoon in Melbourne but it may not hit the G until after this game so check radar’s prior to bounce. Dry or wet, Harmes looks a solid option today in a game he simply must play well in for his team not to get flogged. Hopefully it buckets down and we get 15 tackles from him!

MIDFIELD

Clayton Oliver ($15,110): Like Harmes, Oliver is a great mud-runner who can rack up 60pts in tackle whilst still finding plenty of the footy. Doesn’t need double figure marks to have a solid 120+ game. Like him way more in the wet here so will be checking radar.

Dayne Zorko ($14,270): If Neale doesn’t get attention here in his return to the west to play the old side then i’ll be a monkey’s uncle. Zorko should get no attention, gets a bump with Berry not being there too. Ca have a smash game here.

Matthew Kennedy ($9,960): Back into this side for his first game of 2019, Kennedy is at the stage where every game he gets he needs to make count. Think there is a very solid 80pt floor here for Kennedy. The Ceiling is not there, but he is a safe selection if you are looking down this midfield list.

Brett Bewley ($5,000):Speaking of safe selections, they don’t come much safer than Bewley. A mature body who has dominated in the WAFL, Bewley averaged 26 disposals in the last two seasons of footy. Always a risk that Lyon will put him somewhere he shouldn’t be but more likely I think his selection will allow Mundy and/or Fyfe to play more forward, where the Dockers badly need better connection and return on effort.

DEFENDERS

Kade Simpson ($11,560): We get Simpson at a price low enough to have a dip this week. Newman and Thomas across half back have curtailed his ceiling this season but at under 12k, in a fast-paced high-possession game, Kade has a three-figure game in him here.

Shane Savage ($11,990): Whether the Blues play well or poorly, Savage will score well. A lot of their switch plays go through him and he can sneak forward and threaten the goals as well. Love him here.

RUCK

Harry McKay ($9,530): Taking Curnow AND big Harry completes our finger crossing strategy that the Blues won’t suck. Peeled off a 95pt effort against the Giants – imagine what he could score if his team actually plays well! Great ceiling.
