AFL TIGERS V MAGPIES $50,000+ CHEAT SHEET

Richmond. Collingwood. MCG. Fifty THOOOOUSAND…Gotta love Thursdays at Draftstars!

This is an absolute belter of a single game contest with injuries and Round 1 form (or lack thereof) combining to offer coaches myriad build options.

The big news pre-game, and an element that every coach must factor into calculations, is who will directly benefit from injuries to key tigers Alex Rance and Bachar Houli. It’s not just the Tigers but also a potential bump for some Magpies as well and this is absolutely something that we are looking to exploit with our build.

The most difficult decision tonight in terms of selection will be the ruck. With four well-priced options available, coaches will get great bang for their buck on the ownership percentage front with their big man selection – do you write off R1 as an anomaly and pay up for Grundy, do you stick with Nankervis (particularly with Balta omitted) or do you take one of the two sub-10k options and hope for a value game at great ownership? It is one of many great decisions tonight but nailing it will take your team a long way to cashing.

Here is my team you can consider using, or building around, for the Tigers v Magpies $50k

FORWARD

Kane Lambert ($13,150)

No Grigg or Caddy still for Richmond which means Lambert becomes very important for Richmond. His endurance is excellent and given the outs his role in terms of time in the midfield is secure. We’re selecting him here confident of a repeat of the 113pts he produced R1. Not many forward options have Lambert’s high floor as well as his 110+ ceiling and with plenty likely to pay up for Dusty, lambert could once again come in under-owned.

Jaidyn Stephenson ($9,260)

Stephenson returned 71pts against the Cats and barely seemed involved. Capable of adding another 15-20pts to this score in goals alone. Against this under-strength Richmond defence, sans the sweeper Rance, Stephenson is just the kind of player who can impact out the back. Likely to be extremely low-owned as majority of coaches opt for Elliot and/or Higgins at near identical price points.

MIDFIELD

Kamdyn McIntosh ($8,440)

Not much to dislike about McIntosh tonight. Returned a solid 67pt 8x game first up and gets a nice points / role bump in Houli’s absence. Can pretty safely lock him in for a 70-80pt game tonight which at his price tag is excellent value.

Adam Treloar ($16,610)

We’re paying up for one and it’s Adam Treloar. 34 disposals, 6 tackles, 5 backs – he is just in everything. Has a great tank so you know he can run out games and really score well right to the final siren, and his all-round game means he can score well regardless of how his team is going points whether they are goals or tackles. A pretty prohibitive price tag and a host of lesser studs 3-4k cheaper mean his ownership is likely to be sub 20%.

Chris Mayne ($11,770)

Though Mayne was unlucky not to score better first up. 22 disposals and 6 marks is a great floor for that 11k price tag, particularly with his link/wing role that he is playing. He seemed really involved and more importantly, was used by his teammates. They like it in his hands. I’m a fan of the midfield POD play and Mayne certainly fits that bill.

Jack Graham ($9,770)

Like Lambert and McIntosh, Graham benefits immensely from the absence of some of those regular midfielders. We were all over him first up and have zero reason to get off now, especially as he is sub 10k. Will be highly owned and there is certainly a body of evidence to suggest he can return a really low score but I still expect him to be highly motivated here, he is playing for his spot with guys ahead of him to come back in. Eating the chalk and enjoying the 8-10x value game.

DEFENDERS

James Aish ($9,870)

Like Mayne, Aish went about his work quietly on Friday night, registering 19 disposals, 5 marks and 4 tackles off half back and through the midfield. Looks to have finally settled into his role at Collingwood and is another very good user (normally) who makes good decisions. Has a really solid 60+ floor so won’t kill your team but I’m not expecting miracles here. Another 80+ would be just fine.

Jayden Short ($11,290)

Big bump in Houli’s absence. Short is THE distributor coming out of defence tonight which makes him a very valuable dfs commodity, one that is likely to go much lower owned thanks to some recency bias. Between his 83pts in R1 and plenty of solid low-priced options in this position, i don’t expect Short’s ownership will clear 25% tonight. Can ton up.

RUCK

Mason Cox ($9,750)

Grundy was horrible last week but this is a pure value selection – Cox is half the price and is playing a team missing it’s superstar full back. Cox will get plenty of chances at those 12pt plays (mark/kick/goal) and lets not forget, his last game against the Tigers he took 9 contested marks in the first quarter and tore them to shreds. There is a 70-80pt game here for Cox but with Grundy and Nankervis both available in the spot it will be interesting how many take him as their ruckman. Dual position status likely to mean Cox comes in at around that 25-30% mark.
