Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $15k Hurricanes v Stars competition

WICKETKEEPER

Tim Paine ($16,350)

Paine enjoyed an up and down BBL|05, which ended up with him averaging 34 with the bat at a strike rate of 117. He seems revitalised at the moment, having not featured at Sheffield Shield level this season. He came out in the Hurricanes’ first match of the season and belted 63 off 45 deliveries, and looked as good as ever. Paine is perhaps the most reliable wicket-keeping option in the competition, and is well worth the extra money.

BATSMEN

George Bailey ($19,000)

While Bailey is a very expensive option, he is one of only two good options to pick from as batsmen for this contest (the other featuring below). After the Hurricanes got off to a good start, he had to change his style of game due to the situation, and his performance suffered as a result. Most importantly, Bailey is the team’s best batsman and batting at four will give him ample opportunity to deliver.

David Hussey ($11,000)

Hussey has played four T20 matches for Prahran in Victorian district cricket, not doing much with the bat but getting wickets with the ball. His price is low due to an uneventful campaign last season, however with Kevin Pietersen missing this game, Hussey should find himself batting higher up the order. He’s a cheap, smart play.

BOWLERS

Hamish Kingston ($8,100)

After an 84 fantasy point performance against the Sixers, Kingston’s value cannot be ignored for this contest. He was traded as a straight swap for Ben Dunk, and while the move was questioned, it’s clear that Kingston will be an important player for Hobart. He will continue to bat at seven, and should bowl at least three overs every match, making him an all-rounder who is out of position. He’s a great selection.

Scott Boland ($15,400)

Boland will be the leader of the Stars’ attack this season, with injury ruling Hastings out of the tournament. Boland is a genuine wicket-taker in limited overs cricket, and while he tends to go for a few runs, the extra points for wickets will help us. He is the most reliable option from the Stars, and we should expect a good performance.

ALL-ROUNDER

James Faulkner ($13,450)

“The Finisher” is a must-have in this contest, as he’s likely to bowl his 3-4 overs and bat in the top six. Faulkner is in good form with bat and ball, and will look to deliver as one of the leaders of this team. Having had a poor BBL|05, Faulkner’s price is again, low. We need to take advantage of the big-hitting Australian star.

FLEX

Luke Wright ($14,250)

The Englishman has been with the Stars from the outset, and while his form has looked shaky in the past, an average of 35 across the entire campaign in BBL|05 has him confident and ready to go for this first match. His recent form in England has been below average, however he always comes to Australia energised and excited for the BBL. We may even see the return of his medium-pace, depending on game situations.
