BBL08 GAME 19: HURRICANES v SIXERS

We are building around the redundant apostrophe T’Onight. Forget his price tag, if you don’t have him and he fires, you wont cash. That simple.

The Re-cap

Our third cash in four games and we’re back in black for BBL08 after yet another quality player returned to the form we know he can produce in Jake Weatherald. It was a team that could have gone to the very pointy end had a few things fallen our way. But take the cash and move on to tonight.

Likely XI’s

Game 19 @ Bellerive Oval, Hobart

Hurricanes – Short, Wade, Doolan, McDermott, Bailey, Milenko, Faulkner, Botha, Archer, Rose, Meredith (Moody, Doran)

  • Unchanged 13 and likely unchanged 11. Will want to keep their winning ways so I can’t see too many changes to either the team or the batting lineup.

Sixers – Denly, Avendano, Henriques, Hughes, Silk, Phillipe, Abbott, Curran, O’Keefe, Dwarsius, Manenti, (Edwards, West)

  • Unchanged 13 as well (unheard of). Avendano did enough for mine first up to retain his spot. Watch for Edwards to come in for Manenti who dropped a few last game and just looks surplus to requirements. Denly can capably bowl as the second spinner and Henriques is right to bowl now so don’t be surprised if they stack their batting and utilize Denly/Henriques as the 5th

Selection Committee

We are building around the redundant apostrophe T’Onight. Forget his price tag, if you don’t have him and he plays well you wont cash, that simple. Curran and SOK are my big fades, too much class at top for the Hurricanes and they bat too deep for Curran to pick up cheap economy / wickets late. This side is a bit of an all-or-nothing team but it is being built on the back of how poor the Sixers have been. Pretty rare you can fit an entire bowling attack into a side but you can tonight, so long as Short makes decent runs it should be a quality cash.

Selection

D’Arcy Short ($26, 400): No price tag is too much to pay for the player with the biggest ceiling in BBL DFS and tonight he is especially worth his weight given he is facing the worst attack in the competition. Short gets himself out or he gets 100, and he is batting like he knows it.

Moises Henriques ($11,600): My only other recognized batsman. Mozzie has found some form and I expect him to roll the arm over tonight. Price is too appealing for a guy with his exposure.

James Faulkner ($15,400): Let’s hope jimmy gets it swinging early. If I had two teams id probably take Faulkner out of one and replace with a Doolan or McDermott but in this team we are guaranteeing that we take Sixers wickets so Faulkner goes in. Always a chance to be elevated up the order late especially in a blowout, they will want him to maintain touch.

Johan Botha ($8,900): The revenge narrative is not something I take into account much but Botha knows these Sixers very well, knows where to bowl to them. He has bowled just two overs the last two games and as a result his ownership will be sub 15%. Likely single digits. Again, plenty could go wrong but in a team where we are blanketing Sixers wickets then Botha goes in.

Clive Rose ($10,300): If you don’t have Denly or Avendano in your side then Rose should be considered strongly because he will get 1-2 overs in the powerplay. Love how much faith Wade has bowling him late too. I’m worried that the leg stump line approach to Denly will end in him finding form but we have a plan so its pick and stick time.

Jofra Archer ($15,100): After a 27pt two-game average plenty will jump off Jofra tonight. He is my second man picked. His speed will really trouble the Sixers, I’m expecting he clears 80pts tonight.

Riley Meredith ($11,900): To complete the ultimate Hurricane bowler-stack we have Meredith who is coming of a 117pt monster if you don’t mind. Will probably be abit chalky tonight given his last score and if I was picking a different strategy I’d fade him based on that ownership, but got to pick and stick!

Final Thought

This team is build on two pillars of hope; 1) That D’Arcy Short fires and 2) that the Sixers batting innings is poor in general. The team above is guaranteed to take any wickets from the Canes bowling innings so if the Sixers finish all out that’s 200pts before any economy is factored in. Throw in a big score from Short, a little 50pter from Mozzie and some good economy bonuses and we get up to that 400pt range that cashes most nights. There are players I have picked here that I’d never normally select, but when a player fits your game script you have to take them. If you are fading Short, a Wade/McDermott team is well worth a look, as is a SOK/Curran/McDermott/Bailey team. Plenty of options tonight and a great salary cap again gives us excellent flexibility. First game this season I’ve faded McDermott so look forward to him raising the fantasy bat just to spite me.
