BBL08 CONTEST PREVIEW GAME 4: SIXERS v SCORCHERS

There’s a rule in DFS BBL – don’t forget your SOK’s in Sydney. O’Keefe has had a few interrupted seasons of Big Bash which has caused his price to plummet. Get’s his four overs and is probably the best #8 in the Big Bash. Will hold up his end if the top order gets scuttled. I’ll likely be double the field on SOK tonight.”

The Re-cap

Much, much better. Sangha came in at a stupidly low-owned 20% whilst Sams got lucky being dropped twice – you need a bit of luck in the Big Bash and if you were playing yesterday’s lineup you would have enjoyed your 21st place finish for a $57 collect. Back in the green for BBL08 and keen to keep it rolling!

Likely XI’s

Sixers – Denly, Hughes, Edwards, Henriques, Avendano, Phillipe, Abbott, O’Keefe, Dwarsius, Curran, Pope (Silk, Fallins)

  • Phillipe has to play he is the keeping option which doesn’t bode well for Silk. Avendano is a youngster in form but Silk could easily come in and bat #5 here. Fallins the bowler to miss. Phillipe could open with Hughes and push Denly to first drop.

Scorchers – Bosisto, Klinger, Whiteman, Turner, Agar, Cartwright Willey, Coulter-Nile, Tye, Behrendorff, Quadir, behrendorff, (Inglis, Richardson).

  • No Marsh means Bosisto will likely come in and open. Don’t be surpsied to see Cartwright come in at #3-4 and Whiteman be the one to slide. Expect Willey playshis traditional #6/7 power hitting role but #3-7 for the Scorchers is a crap shoot. If you don’t play the leggy at the SCG you may as well not have him at all for Quadir should suit up here. Inglis could come in for Whiteman after that putrid attempted lap that started the batting rot against the Renegades.

Selection Committee

Pretty simple stuff tonight – it’s the SCG so I’m taking as much spin as I can possibly squeeze into a lineup here and then I’m taking openers who will do their damage early against the seamers and/or batsman who can farm the spinners.

Selection

Joe Denly ($19,400): All he has to do is see off the swing of Behrendorff and a massive score beckons here. He will know that if he fails, the Sixers are a big chance to fail also so I expect him not to throw his wicket away. Should open and punish the seamers if they are offline. 1-2 overs of off spin would not surprise.

Moises Henriques ($14,900): Picking him as purely a batsman here, if he bowls it’s a bonus. Expect he bats #4. Can farm the spinners but can also clear the fence at will. Respects his wicket and knows how to build his innings which in this BBL08 has proven to be gold.

Michael Klinger ($13,800): Knew he erred against Christian on Thursday and is unlikely to repeat. Should just accumulate as is his way. Knows his side needs 130 runs to be in with a huge chance of winning so he is unlikely to feel that kind of run rate pressure again. Slight concern about Curran swinging it away from him early but was striking them pure before his lapse in judgement last game.

Ashton Agar ($17,400): Huge POD play here. I expect Agar to be sub 15% given the recency bias and the plethora of other spin options and the fact he will bat #5 or #6. But Agar will get his 4 overs and on a big ground like Sydney he is a good chance to take a few wickets especially bowling in tandem with Quadir. Looked in good nick before he spooned on to mid off last start and may bat #4 or #5 if selection falls his way. All things said and done he is probably Perth’s best batsman. Be over the field here, I’m expecting a big game.

Usman Quadir ($9,500): Picking Agar as a batsman allows me to take another 12 overs of spin and that is exactly what I’ll be doing. Quadir was bowling pies against the Renegades but conditions were far from suitable. Make no mistake, if he is picked hgere he will be a handful. 48pts of economy is here for the taking.

Llyod Pope ($8,000): With very few super high-priced players tonight I don’t expect Pope will be over 30% but I don’t see how you can leave him out. Will get his 4 overs and I will love watching every single ball.

Stephen O’Keefe ($10,700): There’s a rule in DFS BBL – don’t forget your SOK’s in Sydney. O’Keefe has had a few interrupted seasons of Big Bash which has caused his price to plummet. Get’s his four overs and is probably the best #8 in the Big Bash. Will hold up his end if the top order gets scuttled. I’ll likely be double the field on SOK tonight.

Final Thought

16-20 overs of spin on a turning wicket with some class batsman sprinkled in – really liking this line-up tonight. You could swap out Klinger for Turner who I think is another great POD for tonight if you wish or take a punt on one of the Sixers kids like Edwards or Avendano if you like. Phillipe against the old side is every chance to open with Hughes too
