BBL08 GAME 38: THUNDER V RENEGADES

Taking the spinners at Spotless has been one of the few constants in a very random Big Bash season.

The Re-cap

Archer finally bowls well the first game we jump off the Jofra Express and one of the BB:’s best bowling units can’t take a single wicket – what in the name of the Punter and the Warney is going on here! The start of the ODI’s has really thrown off our groove with five straight misses. The rot stops tonight at Spotless!

Likely XI’s

Game 38: Thunder v Renegades

Thunder – Watson, Devcich, Ferguson, Lenton, Sangha, Sams, Green, Nair, Jordan, Sandhu, Ahmed (Cook, Rainbird)

  • With Devcich able to bowl his off spin there is a real coin flip for Cook/Sandhu tonight, likely Sandhu for balance. Expect Nair retains his spot but slips down the order to let Sangha back into #5.

Renegades –Harvey, Finch, Harper, White, Cooper, Nabi, Christian, Tremain, Boyce, Richardson, Gurney (Webster, Holland)

  • There is every chance that Holland plays here in place of Tremain. With Christian in the attack they have a third seamer if they choose to take a third spin option which makes sense at Spotless. Harvey should slot into open but don’t be surprised if Nabi comes in to open here with Webster batting #6 and Harvey sitting out.

Selection Committee

Take the spinners at Spotless. It has been one of the few constants in a very random Big Bash season. Taking 14-16 overs of spin appeals strongly tonight as does taking the in-form Shane Watson but it is my two POD batsman in Sangha and Harvey that will decide the fate of this team. If both these guys can return me 30-40’s and Watson does what he does, then my spinners should do the rest and a nice solid cash awaits. If you are playing a second team I’d look at fading Watto, dropping Green and opting for a Finch/Devcich/Fergy lineup which would be very unique.

Team: Watson, Sangha, Harvey, Green, Nair, Ahmed, Boyce.

Final Thought

14-16 overs of spin on a deck that really suits the turners is a great start but it’s the batsman that matter tonight. Part of me is really wanting to fade Watto and take Devcich instead but after a few games missing out on the cash Watson’s recent form is too hard to ignore.
