BBL08 GAME 46: RENEGADES V THUNDER

I expect batsman to struggle tonight so I’ll be taking as many overs with the ball as I can hoping for a really low-scoring scrap.

The Re-cap

With Riley Meredith being ruled out late in the early game those that defaulted to Moody (his replacement) would have finished outright 9th. If you used the salary difference to move up the batting order from McDermott to Wade you’d have finished top 5 but we will take the $102 collect for 9th and be happy. We stacked the wrong team in the late game, those that went Sixer heavy would have been very happy.

Likely XI’s

Game 46: Renegades v Thunder @ Marvel Stadium

Renegades – Harvey, Finch, Harper, Cooper, Nabi, Christian, Wildermuth, Tremain, Boyce, Richardson, Gurney (Holland, Webster)

  • Expect Wildermuth to play tonight as the Renegades stack their seamers on a deck that has really suited them. Christian wasted at #7 anyway so they can afford to take White out and back their quicks to chip in with some runs if needed.

Thunder – Watson, Devcich, Ferguson, Sangha, Sams, Holt, Green, Jordan, Sandhu, McAndrew, Ahmed (Nair, Cook)

  • Baxter Holt will debut tonight and keep wickets with Gilkes and Lenton both hurt. Where Holt bats is anyone’s guess. He is a top order batsman so there is a chance he comes in with Watson. Highly doubt they will take a third spinner into tonight – Marvel stadium has suited the quicks so expect Cook and Nair to miss.

Selection Committee

Both these teams last played at Perth and that deck is about as far removed as you can get from the one they play on tonight. Balls will keep low, bounce will be uneven and plenty of balls will hold up. I expect batsman to struggle tonight so I’ll be taking as many overs with the ball as I can hoping for a really low-scoring scrap.

The Thunder have batted well the last few games but it has been on the back of one dominant innings. Tonight the likes of Watson and Ferguson, whilst they are in form, will be under pretty severe pressure especially if they bat second so this side were taking tonight includes four Renegades seamers plus one Thunder paceman. Taking five bowlers (16-20 overs) will hopefully provide a great points base from economy bonus and is Sangha and Harvey can both return some runs this team will enjoy a solid cash.

If fielding multiple sides tonight, don’t be afraid of a stack where you take 3-4 bowlers from one side as well as two batsman and finish off the side with one lone bowler or batsman from the opposition. It could be one of those nights where a team just completely falls apart.
