BBL08 GAME 42: Stars v Heat

The Heat bowlers suck and the Stars batsman are on fire – a big Stars stack looks the play tonight.

The Re-cap

We have taken Ferguson in every game this season bar the one he goes nuts on. Typical. We nailed Marsh and if his teammates had have been able to field/catch Quadir would have been 1/5 off his first over with Fergy back in the sheds. That was the over we lost touch, after that Fergy went bang and we got swamped by the 47% of the field who had him. We’ve had two days off to have a good hard look at ourselves. Time to shine.

Likely XI’s

Game 42: Stars v heat @ MCG

Stars – Dunk, Stoinis, Handscomb, Maxwell, Maddinson, Bravo, Gulbis, Plunkett, Zampa, Worrall, Bird (O’Connell, Gotch)

  • The king of BBL swing Franky Worrall is back into the 13 for the Stars and I expect him to play tonight at the expense of Gotch or Gulbis. With the Stars top order in form with the bat they will want bowling options incase Lynn or McCullum go nuts and with Worrall in they have 6-7 bowlers to share 20 overs (Maxwell Included) so be aware if you take any Stars bowler that it might be 2-3 overs tonight not 4.

Heat – McCullum, Bryant, Lynn, Renshaw, Cutting, Alex Ross, Pierson, Swepson, Lalor, Doggett, Mujeeb (Prestwidge, Kuhnemann)

  • Renshaw has been named in the 13, I expect him to slot into #4 behind Lynn tonight with Prestwidge/Ross making way.

Selection Committee

The Heat bowlers suck, the Stars batsman have been on fire and the Stars bowling unit could be bolstered by Worrall’s early swing – this game is screaming out to build around a really dominant Stars performance. Taking as many Stars overs as I can and taking two top order Stars batsman hoping they get the bulk of the runs.

Team: Bravo, Handscomb, Stoinis, Pierson, Bird, Worrall, Zampa

Final Thoughts

15-16 overs for the Stars with their opening bowlers to take early wickets which brings Pierson into play. If Bravo gets access to that Heat tail he will mop them. Dunk likely to be well over-owned based off last-start so I’m happy to fade and hope he goes cheaply with Handscomb/Stoinis to get the bulk of the runs. If building multiple lineups, I would look at Dunk and Maxwell and Cutting as the three players unlucky to miss this lineup. The MCG is a bit of a road so taking a Dunk/Cutting or Maxy/Cutting instead of a Bird/Bravo is a good option in a game where there may not be too much economy rate bonuses.
