BBL $8k+ Stars v Renegades

cac9i_3vaaaideb

The New Year kicks off with a DraftStars contest and a Melbourne Derby between the Stars and Renegades, who will face each other at the MCG in the first of two matches between the two sides within a week. Both teams will be eager to pick up a win at this point in the season, particularly the Renegades following a narrow loss against the Scorchers in their last outing.

Here is a team you may consider for the BBL Stars v Renegadeses competition:

Wicketkeeper

Peter Nevill ($8,000)

This match doesn’t offer a reliable wicket-keeping choice as both players bat at seven for their respective teams and neither is renowned for their big hitting. Nevill is clearly the better selection though, given he’s at a bargain basement price and he’s be more likely to get a stumping or two with the quality list of spin bowlers at the Renegades.

Batsmen

Aaron Finch ($24,900)

Finch has started BBL|06 off brilliantly. He produced 63 in his first match, and 24, a wicket, and run out in his second. The Renegades’ captain is one of the best fantasy players in the competition, and needs to be locked into this contest despite being expensive. Finch will hit plenty of sixes, and his strike rate bonus is always a relevant factor making him an all-round threat. The fact he can bowl an over occasionally to keep things tight only adds to his value.

Rob Quiney ($8,000)

A 75 out of nowhere in the first match of the Stars’ campaign has elevated Quiney into DraftStars’ relevancy once again. He hit five fours, and crucially, five sixes in a swashbuckling innings. Given he comes in at the bargain basement price of only 8k, he is a must-have for this contest, as he allows us to use the extra cash on bigger stars. Quiney should be good for some runs at the top of the order.

Bowlers

Sunil Narine ($17,100)

The best bowler in the competition is nicely priced in this contest, and is clearly the best option of the match. He has four wickets in his two matches thus far, with both performances falling within the economy bonus as well. Narine is batting at nine this season for the Renegades, and he showed against Andre Russell that he can clear the fence, which makes him a fantastic option. He’s averaging 96 points in DraftStars so far this season.

Chris Tremain ($11,050)

Tremain is an underrated player for the Renegades, and has proven to be very hard to get away for opposition teams in the first two games of his campaign. With figures of 1/21 and 0/19, Tremain clearly gets a bowling bonus, and the MCG should be beneficial to his bowling style. The 25-year-old is pushing to get his Australian spot back, and we can expect a good performance in the biggest match of the season so far.

Allrounder

Glenn Maxwell ($20,750)

After a huge first match, it’s clear that Maxwell is ready to take the BBL by the scruff of the neck. While he’ll slip down to four in the batting order due to the return of Kevin Pietersen, he still comes in early enough to go big with the bat, and his bowling is extremely valuable if he can get it right. He is on the fringe of the Australian ODI team, and continued successes at this level will only help his case. He, like Finch, is worth the extra money.

Flex

Brad Hogg ($10,050)

The 45-year-old has started off BBL|06 well, with figures of 2/22 and 0/31 earning him a 48 points per game average. Hogg is someone who steps up in big matches, and while the Stars have some good players of spin, too many of their batsmen tend to try and read the ball off the pitch, which may be too late when facing the Hogg wrong’un. He’s landing the ball well and looking confident, which makes him an excellent under-priced option.
