The Late Cut: BBL $7k+ Stars v Heat
The Big Bash returns to the spiritual home of cricket tonight with the top of the table Melbourne Stars taking on fellow finals aspirant, the Brisbane Heat. The Heat are without both members of the ‘Bash Brothers’ with an injury/national call up for Lynn and a suspension for McCullum. The Stars lose Peter Handscomb to the national team as well. Draftstars will be running a $7,000 game for this match, with $1,400 going to first place.

Wicketkeeper
Jimmy Peirson ($10,550)
With the loss of his opening partner, Peirson must shoulder more of the responsibility at the top of the Heat’s batting lineup. Peirson has been fairly destructive when he gets a start, he has scored over 40 twice, but he has also scored under 2 runs on three occasions. Peirson is an obvious choice at the wicket keeping position because his opposite number bats down the order and may not get an opportunity to score points.
Batsmen
Kevin Pietersen ($17,450)
KP is a model of consistency in T20 cricket. He has had five innings so far and has scored above 30 in all bar one of them. If Melbourne are to go one better than last year, they will need Pietersen to continue his hot form that has carried them over the past season and a half. Pietersen loves the big stage and this is a big game against another top four opponent.
Rob Quiney ($16,250)
Quiney is in amazing form at the top of the Stars batting order, in his four innings to date, he has scored over 30 in all of them. All four of his innings have also come with a strike rate of over 150. He is consistently getting the Stars off to quick starts, and there is no reason why he cannot do it again against the porous Heat bowling lineup.
Bowlers
Scott Boland ($14,750)
Boland has continued his good form, picking up two wickets in the Stars last game against the Scorchers. Boland has taken eight wickets in his past three matches, averaging 82 DS points over that period. He is a class death bowler who appears to have relished the extra responsibility that he has since Faulkner was called up to the national team. Back him to keep up his good work and take some more wickets here.
Michael Beer ($11,250)
Beer is another Melbourne bowler who has turned it on in recent matches. He has scored 97 or more DS points in two of his past three matches, picking up five wickets in that period. He has also been miserly with his economy rate throughout BBL06, never going for more than 8 runs per over. Two thirds of Beer’s deliveries were dots in his last match, which is remarkable seeing as he was bowling in unfriendly conditions in Perth. Back on his home track, Beer can spin the Stars to victory.
Allrounder
Ben Cutting ($14,800)
Whilst he has been in decent form with the ball in BBL06, Cutting has not performed as well with the bat as he would have liked. He has often been coming in to bat with big scores already on the board and limited overs remaining, but tonight he may have a greater opportunity to bat with no McCullum or Lynn in the lineup. On top of his guaranteed four overs with the ball, Cutting represents a good selection in the allrounder spot.
Flex
Joe Burns ($12,500)
With the suspension of McCullum, Burns is the Heat’s acting captain for the night. He will most likely promote himself to the top of the order, which gives him the most opportunity to get a big score. In his last two innings, he has scored over 20 both times (he did not bat against the Scorchers) so he is starting to find some form again. As captain he will also be fielding in areas where he can impact the game, making him a good choice for your flex position.
