AUSTRALIA V SOUTH AFRICA $7,500+ CHEAT SHEET

T20 season is here. And none too soon. After a relatively disparaging ODI series against South Africa, Australia now have a chance for redemption in the form of a one off T20 against the same foe.

Thankfully, Australia is actually a pretty handy T20 side, even without Steve Smith and David Warner. Ranked third in the world behind India and Pakistan, the Aussies will actually enter this match as favourites.

Their favouritism comes on the back of hard work from Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Finch, Billy Stanlake and Andrew Tye, who are all among the top ten ranked players in their respective roles. As for South Africa, due largely to inconsistent team selection and lack of games, only JP Duminy falls within the top ten players in any category. And he won’t be taking part in this game.

Still, this promises to be a tight clash. Australia are still reeling from the Smith, Warner and Bancroft bans as well as its damning review, while South Africa are full of momentum, buoyed by their series victory in the one dayers.

It is heating up, literally and metaphorically. Draftstars are feeling the warmth and putting $7,500 on the line for this one off match. A huge $852 will go to first place and $639 to second, for an entry cost of just $15. Open your app or browser and be sure to submit a team for your chance to win.

Here is a team you may consider for the ODI Australia v South Africa $7,500+ competition

Batsman

D’Arcy Short ($17,300)

Let us address the elephant in the room. Short had a shocker in ODI one against South Africa. He seemed overawed and was just completely unable to have an effect on the outcome. Let’s bet on that being behind him, and an anomaly that came with it being just his fourth ODI. Besides, he is a T20 player. He averages 38 with the bat and can take a scalp with his left-arm spin. And when he hits them, they stay hit.

Marcus Stoinis ($17,100)

While his 13 T20’s to date have not returned much, Stoinis was easily Australia’s best player in the ODI series. It’s fair to expect him to back up his 8 wickets at 15 and 79 runs at 26. Expect Stoinis to feature more heavily with the bat as the Aussies try to take advantage of his big hitting ability.

Andile Phehlukwayo ($14,600)

Phehlukwayo showed his wares in the first ODI before sitting out the other two games. In that match he snared three wickets and gave the Aussies headaches all round. In his last five domestic T20’s he has taken 12 for 114 to be one of the best bowlers in the South African domestic competition.

Heinrich Klaasen ($13,900)

His ODI series left a little to be desired but, in his defence, he never really needed to do much. In their recent tour match against the Cricket Australia XI, Klaasen bashed 41 from 23 balls and looked to be in serious touch with six boundaries. He is a relatively inexperienced international cricketer but has a domestic T20 average of 33.

Bowler

Chris Morris ($13,100)

Chris Morris is a guy that has largely built his career playing domestic T20 cricket, as has been the rage over the past ten or so years. He averages 25 with the bat domestically and has a seriously good average of 22 with the ball. He has backed that bowling up at international level too. Morris was the pick of the bowlers in the T20 tour match, returning figures of 2/35.

Glenn Maxwell ($11,600)

Glenn Maxwell is the top ranked international T20 all-rounder and comes in at sixth on the batting list as well. The man can play. Encouragingly, also, he seems to have more of a license and consequent confidence in the T20 format. He has taken four wickets in his past four games and his batting average of over 30 is impressive. If you needed any more convincing, Maxy’s last ODI showed a glimpse of a return to form with 35 runs from 27 balls.

Nathan Coulter-Nile ($10,600)

Coulter-Nile, the hypen, two Dads, whatever it is you want to call him, is a solid T20 cricketer. He has a strike rate of 122 with the bat and is often the wagging part of the Australian tail after an all too familiar top order collapse. This is in addition to his 24.42 bowling average and 18 bowl strike rate, that translates to 28 wickets in his 23 games.
