THE HANGOVER: DRAFTSTARS WEEKLY WRAP

The NBA kicked off on Wednesday last week with the Warriors and Celtics taking bragging rights over the Thunder and Sixers and OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED ON SUNDAY!

After a fairly routine first week on the 18-19 NBA season, the Lakers and Rockets went ballistic on Sunday, with Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo throwing hands and Brandon Ingram flying in like Thon Maker with a dirty, dirty haymaker. What… Why? Carmelo’s face says it all.

Anyway, despite Lebron joining them, the Lakers are yet to chalk up their first win. Joining them with a donut in the win column is OKC, although, Russell Westbrook missed the first two games and returned in their matchup against Sacramento to put up 32 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Westbrook things.

On the other side of the ledger, Toronto has started the Kawhi Leonard era three and zip and the Warriors just keep rolling, rolling, rolling. Sneaky good sides Denver, New Orleans and Utah are a few to watch out for as well. Utah’s Aussie favourite Jingling Joe Ingles has had a hot start to the season and is a major reason the Jazz are looking so strong. He dropped in 27 points on 10/15 shooting against the Warriors.

The NFL actually exhibited some semblance of regularity in week seven. Some being the key word. Still, the Panthers rallied from 17-0 down to topple Philly 21-17 and the Bears and Mitch Trubisky very nearly pulled off a miracle Hail Mary play to beat the Patriots. As we wait for week eight, let us all pray for Josh Rosen. The rookie had a tough week throwing two pick 6’s and getting sacked six times.

In the NFL contest, X + Kareem Hunt = victory. That was the case for six of the top 10 in the Monday competition. But pstruscott ‘s X took him to the top and the $1,140 prize.

NFL $15,000+ MONDAY

It was all out offense once again in week seven. Seven sides chalked up over 30 points and 17 broke the 20-point mark too. That offensive output translated to massive individual scores across the board. Kareem Hunt had himself a day with 37.10 points but the top 11 players all scored over 25. Only three of them were QB’s, that meant value across the RB, WR and TE positions as well.

Marlon Mack, RB of the Indianapolis Colts for those playing at home, had a career day with 31.90 points. Notching up over 150 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, he was the second best value selection of the week at only $8,020. He was selected by only 2% of entries.

We haven’t mentioned him in this blog but it is high time we did. Patty Mahomes is unbelievable. He has thrown for 2,507 yards and 22 touchdowns in his first eight games, both NFL records. As a consequence, he has scored 195.2 DS points this year to be the top DS scorer. He cost $22,210 in week seven (and was selected by just 7% of entries) but proved his worth once more with 4TD passes, 358 yards and 33.82 points.

Next week, cast your eye over the Bengals/Bucs matchup for offensive players. Both sides allow huge scores against but have offensive weapons across the gridiron. Mike Evans will probably go off for Tampa, so too A.J. Green for the Bengals. Jameis Winston has been building as well, he’s a great value QB for next week.

NBA COMPETITIONS

After typically smooth sailing to start the NBA season, things went up a notch on Sunday when the Lakers and Rockets extended UFC 229. James Harden managed to stay out of the fracas and came back on Monday against the Clippers in a BIG way. The reigning MVP put his best foot forward to replicate his 17-18 season with 31 points, 4 rebound and 14 assists! He was the most expensive selection available on Monday but his output of 61.50 was the highest.

De’Aron Fox took advantage of an old fashioned shootout with Russell Westbrook to notch up a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists. He scored 45.25 DS points and was one of the best value selections for the Monday competition.

Denver are a team stacked with potential DS beasts. Jamaal Murray can get hot, Gary Harris too, but Nikola Jokic is in another stratosphere. He has played some unicorn like games over his young career but his match against the Suns on Sunday may have been his best. He went a perfect 11/11 from the field for 35 points and also racked up 12 rebounds and 11 assist to record his 17th career triple double. That was enough for an astronomical 74 DS points. Don’t miss out on these DS fantasy golden Nuggets.

The Jazz have a full schedule this week and Jingling Joe Ingles is in red-hot form. Across the first two games he has averaged 45.1 DS points. Averaging over 24 points and five three pointers, he has been a DS gem at great value. His $11,550 price tag means he is a very worthwhile selection.

The NBA looks like it’s going to mirror the NFL and match it for excitement. Draftstars has you covered across both leagues. Submit a team each day for the NBA and build up your kitty to launch into the NFL Monday competition!
