The Late Cut: BBL $10k+ Heat v Hurricanes

the-gabba

After two thrillers in the last two nights, the Big Bash continues with two strong batting teams, the Brisbane Heat hosting the Hobart Hurricanes. Brisbane got out of jail last match against the Thunder. Chris Lynn was heroic, carrying his team to a victory, but he was helped out by some woeful catching. The Hurricanes were no match for the Stars in their last match, losing by 9 wickets. Draftstars will be running a $10,000 game, with $2,000 going to first place.

Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $10k+ Heat v Hurricanes competition:

Wicketkeeper

Tim Paine ($16,350)

Paine has been incredible form at the top of the order for the Hurricanes, scoring a combined 154 runs in his two innings so far. He blasted 91 against Melbourne last match, scoring a whopping 134 DS points. Paine can most definitely continue his hot streak in this match, the Heat do not have a strong bowling lineup, which Paine can exploit.

Batsmen

Chris Lynn ($26,650)

BBL05’s most damaging player showed that he was recapturing his form that eluded him so far this tournament. Lynn put the team on his back and carried them to a victory against the Thunder, but was helped by Shane Watson’s village cricket fielding. Hobart’s attack is lacking a little bit in quality, so hopefully Lynn can pick up where he left off.

Brendon McCullum ($17,400)

If McCullum’s first match was brilliant, his last one was the complete opposite. McCullum was bowled in a manner that was reminiscent of his dismissal in the World Cup Final, he was completely done for pace. Luckily for McCullum, there is no bowler of the quality of Cummins in the Hurricanes lineup, so he can get back to his attacking ways. The ‘Gabba is notoriously batter friendly in limited overs cricket, so back McCullum to cash in.

Bowlers

Mark Steketee ($8,000)

I think the correct play is so save some money on bowlers in this game because this will be a batter dominated match. Steketee is a good play, because not only is he cheap, but he has surprised many by taking a few poles so far in BBL06. McCullum has placed his faith in Steketee, so he will bowl four overs and can hopefully get a wicket or two.

Hamish Kingston ($8,100)

The young quick, Kingston also represents a good value play in this match. He has bowled three overs in both of his games so far, taking two wickets in his first match, and copping a bit of stick against the Stars. He can bounce back here and at the very least try to be economical. It is a tough task bowling to the Heat’s star studded lineup of McCullum, Lynn, Ross, Cutting etc, so it is prudent to save some salary to splurge elsewhere.

Allrounder

D’Arcy Short ($8,000)

Short exploded onto the scene in the Hurricanes first match, smashing the Sixers bowling attack for 61 in really quick time. He struggle in his last match against the Stars, but look for him to bounce back. He will be opening the batting on the quick and bouncy Gabba pitch, which usually lends itself to scoring. He will be opening the batting with Tim Paine, who is also in great form.

Flex

Alex Ross ($9,650)

Ross did not quite get going in this previous match, only scoring 11 before he was bowled. Ross was brought into this heat lineup from the striker for his ability to finish an innings. He is elite at finishing, especially with his trademarked sweep shot. Ross loves getting down on one knee and dispatching all bowlers to the boundary rope on both sides of the wicket. As stated previously, there will be a lot of runs in this match, hopefully Ross is amongst them.
