The Late Cut: BBL $10k+ Heat v Sixers
BBL06 continues tonight with an intriguing matchup between the high flying Brisbane Heat and the Sydney Sixers. The heat were explosive in their last match, blasting the Hurricanes off the park (and once out of the stadium). The Sixers were incredibly disappointing on New Year’s Eve against the Strikers getting rolled for 104. On paper, it looks like the heat should be too strong again, however, the Big Bash is notorious for rapid form reversals, so it is anyone’s game. Draftstars will be running a $10,000 game for this match, with $2,000 going to first place.

Wicketkeeper
Brendon McCullum ($17,400)
McCullum has been in damaging form at the top of the order for the Heat, leading by example in BBL06. McCullum was at his best in the last match, scoring 72 runs on his way to 147 DS points. Whilst the Sixers bowling attack is better than the Hurricanes attack, he should still be able to smash them around the ground and get another big score.
Batsmen
Chris Lynn ($26,650)
The leading competition run scorer and six hitter was at his devastating best against the Hurricanes, blasting an unbeaten 84 runs. He carved up the Hurricanes bowling attack, hitting seven sixes including one out of the ground against Shaun Tait. We saw in BBL05 that Lynn was able to maintain periods of white hot form and even though he is quite expensive, there is no reason to leave him out of your team.
Nic Maddinson ($10,350)
Maddinson was unceremoniously axed from the test side after three matches where it is fair to say that he struggled. The fortunate thing for him is that the Heat bowling attack is a level below the Pakistani attack. Maddison is an accomplished T20 player with a chip on his shoulder, look for him to release the shackles and get back amongst the runs.
Bowlers
Will Somerville ($8,000)
Somerville has been very consistent in his two matches so far in BBL06, picking up three wickets. He bowls crafty off spinners and is quite difficult to get away, his economy rate across his two games is 5.33. Whilst Lynn and co will probably get after him, they will get after every bowler, so at least he is not using too much of your salary by picking him.
Mark Steketee ($8,000)
Steketee should be in the running for the most improved player of BBL06. It is fair to say that he bowled absolute junk last season, he had an average economy rate over 11 and only took 3 wickets for the tournament. This season, he has taken 6 wickets already with an economy rate of just over 6.5. McCullum has placed a lot of faith in Steketee, asking him to bowl in big situations and Steketee is repaying the faith.
Allrounder
Sean Abbott ($15,300)
Abbott has been in hot from in BBL06. He is the leading wicket taker in the competition, taking 9 wickets at an average of 12.33. He has not been required to do much batting, only facing six balls for the tournament, but if Brisbane post a big score, the Sixers will have to slog from the outset, meaning that Abbott is likely to get a bat.
Flex
Alex Ross ($9,650)
The ‘Sweepologist’ hasn’t fired with the bat in his previous two matches, but was electric in the field against the Hurricanes, snaring two catches and a run out. Ross normally bats at four in the Heat lineup, so he usually comes in after Lynn and McCullum have laid a good platform for him. He is a good value play at his salary.
