The Late Cut: BBL $10k+ Scorchers v Heat
After a Hollywood finish last night, BBL06 rolls onto Perth, where the Scorchers take on the Brisbane Heat in a top of the table clash. It would have taken a brave person to pick these two teams at the top after all of the Scorchers injury concerns and the Heats form from last season, yet they have been clearly the two best performed teams of the competition so far. Draftstars will be running a $10,000 game for this match, with $2,000 going to first place.
Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $10k+ Scorchers v Heat competition:
Wicketkeeper
Sam Whiteman ($8,000)
Whiteman has been in solid form over the duration of BBL06. He has not been able to get into rhythm thanks to being constantly shifted up and down the Scorcher batting order. He should be batting fairly high tonight with the absence of Adam Voges, so it looks like a good night to pick him.
Batsmen
Ian Bell ($15,000)
The experience and class of Bell have shone so far in BBL06. He has been excellent, showing a new side to his game that many did not know he had. Bell has scored 149 runs for the tournament and has done so with obvious elegance. He is in a rich vein for form and it is unlikely that the Heat’s average bowling lineup will be able to stop him.
Brendon McCullum ($17,400)
Another classy, experienced batter at the top of his game, McCullum comes into this match having scores 72 and 30 in his last two matches. McCullum also has extra responsibility thrust upon him due to the injury cloud which Chris Lynn is under. Lynn will probably play, but he is clearly affected by it. McCullum throughout his career has always thrived with extra responsibility, so it looks a good match for him.
Bowlers
Andrew Tye
Going into the tournament, Perth were facing an injury crisis with a number of their fast bowlers all injured. It seemed that Tye was the only healthy one and he has really stood up for the Scorchers. Tye has taken 5 wickets in BBL06, but his main benefit to the team has been the miserly fashion in which he has done it. Across the tournament, Tye is only conceding 5.5 runs per over. He is up against the most powerful batting lineup in the Big Bash, but meets them at home and potentially without Lynn.
Mitchell Johnson ($15,000)
Former great Mitchell Johnson has proved in BBL06 that that he still has it. Johnson has taken 5 wickets in BBL06 from one less game than Tye, but he has been quite a bit more expensive. Johnson’s pace and aggression can unsettle the Heat, especially without Lynn. Johnson also excelled in big games throughout his career, he will be firing in this top of the table clash.
Allrounder
Mitchell Marsh ($17,500)
Marsh has been firing with both the bat and the ball in BBL06. In his four matches, he has not scored below 31 runs and he has taken in wicket in all bar one match. Marsh is one of the best limited overs cricketers in Australia and will be one of the first picked in the national ODI team, which means that his time left in the Big Bash is limited. Marsh will be sure to fill his boots against the Heat’s weak bowling lineup.
Flex
Ashton Turner ($8,000)
Turner has been one of the finds of the tournament. He has been destructive with the bat, scoring his 71 runs at a strike rate of over 170. He has also been involved with the ball picking up three wickets. Turner is average a huge 72.5 DS points which is 9 times his salary. He is great value for the flex position.
