The Late Cut: BBL $10k+ Strikers v Hurricanes
After the top of the table clash last night, tonight’s Big Bash sees two teams face off against each other that are closer to the bottom of the table, with the Adelaide Strikers taking on the Hobart Hurricanes. Hobart smashed Adelaide earlier this season, but it is fair to say that both teams have been quite inconsistent. Both teams will be desperate to win here so they can stay in the hunt for finals. Draftstars will be running a $10,000 game for this match, with $2,000 going to first place.
Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $10k+ Strikers v Hurricanes competition:
Wicketkeeper
Tim Paine ($16,350)
Paine has been in scintillating form right throughout BBL06, scoring 204 runs at a strike rate of 133. Paine has reached 40 runs in three out of his four innings. Paine would likely be in the conversation for player of the tournament so far if it was not for the dominance of Chris Lynn. Paine can continue his form here against a struggling Strikers attack.
Batsmen
Brad Hodge ($12,950)
The old boy has been in rare form in BBL06, smashing his way to 174 in his four innings at a strike rate of 140. The 42 year old, who prepared for the tournament by playing for East Sandringham in a ‘syntho’ competition has registered two fifties and not scored below 27. This level of consistency is remarkable and he is a must pick for your team.
George Bailey ($19,000)
Bailey has been a little hit and miss so far in BBL06, registering one score of 74 and three others under 15. This is probably be Bailey’s last match with the Hurricanes before he goes off to play for the Australian ODI team, so he will be keen to leave in good form.
Bowlers
Stuart Broad ($15,600)
I must admit that I was wrong about Broad, I thought that Broad would bowl absolute rubbish, however he is actually bowling quite well. He has taken four wickets in as many matches and his economy rate has reduced with each match he plays. He was almost impossible to get away in his last match against the Strikers, finishing with figures of 1/17 off four overs. There is no reason why he cannot do that again.
Billy Stanlake ($9,500)
Stanlake has been a great addition for the Strikers, really impressing in his three matches. Stanlake has taken 4 wickets and very economical, only conceding 6 runs per over. He generates a lot of bounce thanks to his towering stature, which troubles batsmen and bowls at reasonable pace. He is averaging 61 DS points which is excellent for his salary.
Allrounder
D’Arcy Short ($8,000)
Hobart have won two matches so far in BBL06 and in both of those matches, Short has dominated, scoring above 60 both times. He has cracked the ton in both of those matches as well, including their last match which was also against the Strikers. Short also bowls handy left arm chinaman, but rarely bowls more than an over or two. He is a brilliant value pick at the salary, which allows you to spend big on other players.
Flex
Cameron Boyce ($14,500)
Boyce has not had the best of starts to BBL06. Whilst he has taken three wickets, he has been very expensive, with an average economy rate of over 8.5 runs per over. Boyce also does not generate many dot balls, which restricts his point scoring ability. However, he is a good play in the flex position because he will be playing on an old pitch in Adelaide that is receptive to spin. He will also be bowling to a Strikers batting lineup which are really struggling, look for Boyce to bounce back.
