The Late Cut: BBL $10k Thunder v Heat

spotless

Another night, another Big Bash match. This evening we will see the Sydney Thunder take on the Brisbane Heat. The Thunder are suffering from a bit of a premiership hangover, having lost their opening two matches. They were wiped off the park against the Renegades and need to bounce back here in order to get anything out of this tournament. The Heat, on the other hand, were impressive beating the Strikers. The Heat have arguably the best batting lineup in the Big bash, but one of the worst bowling attacks, so look for a high scoring match here. Draftstars will be running a $10,000 game for this match, with $2,000 going to first place.

Here is a team you may consider for the BBL $10k+ Thunder v Heat competition:

Wicketkeeper

Jimmy Peirson ($10,550)

Peirson is an obvious choice for the wicketkeeping position because he will be opening the batting with Brendon McCullum. Peirson started BBL06 very strongly scoring 46 runs on his way to 70 DS points. The opening partnership with McCullum will provide their fair share of fireworks, so look for both of them to go large.

Batsmen

Ryan Gibson ($8,000)

The Thunder opener has shone so far in BBL06, scoring 53 and 39 in his two matches so far. Gibson has been the Thunder’s shining light with the bat and he has a favourable match up against the poor Heat bowling lineup. Look for him to get the Thunder off to a fast start.

Brendon McCullum ($17,400)

McCullum lit up his first game, smashing 42 off 21 deliveries. He looked in great touch, blasting three sixes, including a cut shot onto the second level at Adelaide Oval. McCullum was one of the most explosive batsmen in the world at his peak as well as an intelligent captain. His used his experience and nouse to guide the Heat to a win in the first match, taking the final catch. There is no reason why he cannot do it again.

Bowlers

Pat Cummins ($10,500)

In form with both the bat and the ball, Cummins is an obvious choice here. He is in the sort of form that will guarantee his selection in the Australian ODI squad, which means that he will only be available for one or two more matches for the Thunder. He is averaging 88.5 DS points having racked up a huge 100 in his last match.

Samuel Badree ($17,250)

There is little doubt that the West Indian leg spinner is the best bowler in the Heat attack. He has excellent control and excels at restricting the opposition. Whilst he didn’t take a wicket against the Strikers, he did manage to bowl a maiden which is quite an achievement is T20 cricket. The strong Heat batting lineup helps Badree who will always have runs to defend when he bowls.

Allrounder

Ben Cutting ($14,800)

Cutting showed his quality with the ball in his last match, snaring two important wickets against the Strikers. He was also promoted up the order, which shows his importance in the Heat set up, Cutting will be used as a pinch hitter, coming in with the intention of accelerating the run rate. He scored 62 DS points on the strength of his bowling last match, look for him to contribute more with the bat here and push his score even higher.

Flex

Alex Ross ($9,650)

Alex ‘The Sweepologist’ Ross showed what a talented limited overs cricketer he is, blasting a breathtaking 64 off just 36 deliveries against the Strikers. Ross is undoubtedly one of the best finishers in T20 cricket in Australia, if his top order can provide a platform, watch for him to be sweeping all bowlers to the boundary on both sides of the wicket.
