The Late Cut: BBL $10k+ Thunder v Stars
The Big Bash continues tonight with a a grand final rematch from BBL05. Last season’s premiers the Sydney Thunder take on the runner up, the Melbourne Stars. The Thunder’s title defense could not be going any worse, winless after three matches. The Stars suffered a setback in their last match, losing to their cross town rivals, the Renegades. Both teams need a win here to get their seasons back on track. Draftstars will be running a $10,000 game for this match, with $2,000 going to first place.

Wicketkeeper
Jay Lenton ($8,000)
Lenton made his debut in the Thunder’s last match against the Scorchers, where he picked up a stumping, as well as scoring 16 runs. Lenton provides good value in the wicket keeping position because he is a stronger batter than his opposite number. As well as this, the Thunder batting lineup is more fragile than the Stars lineup, which means he has more of a chance to bat.
Batsmen
Luke Wright ($14,250)
The damaging English batsmen has made consecutive 40s to kick off his BBL06 campaign. Wright has been a constant at the top of the stars batting lineup, never ceasing to dispatch opposing bowling attacks if they err in their line or length. Wright is averaging a healthy 63.5 DS points so far, back him to keep the hot form going.
Kevin Pietersen ($17,450)
It did not all go to plan for KP on New Year’s Day, after taking a spectacular catch in the field, he was dismissed for 15 runs just as it seemed that he was getting himself going. KP has had more time to settle after only arriving in Australia a couple of days before his last match. He arrived off the ack of coring a lot of runs in South Africa, look for him to make a statement tonight.
Bowlers
Pat Cummins ($10,500)
Cummins has been close to the player of the tournament, getting it done with both the bat and ball. Cummins has taken four wickets for the tournament and has shone with the bat, scoring 111 runs at a strike rate of 148. If only Cummins’ teammates helped him out. Cummins would like to continue his hot form with Australian ODIs around the corner.
Scott Boland ($15,400)
Boland has not started BBL06 as well as he might have liked. He has only taken one wicket across hid to matches and has been quite expensive. Tonight is the night for him to turn it around. The Thunder’s batting lineup has been quite fragile, meaning that when Boland is on at the death, he will be bowling to the tail. It is a great opportunity to pick up some ‘junk time’ wickets. Well worth a punt.
Allrounder
Glenn Maxwell ($20,750)
We have seen the two sides of Maxwell so far in BBL06. He was brilliant against the Hurricanes, picking up 151 DS points and he was woeful against the Renegades, picking up 1 DS point. I think that you will see a return to the middle order and you will also see him bowling in this match tonight. He is a point scoring machine because of how involved he is in all three facets of the game, back him to score big here.
Flex
Kurtis Patterson ($11,500)
After a slow start to BBL06, Patterson has shown signs of improvement in his past couple of games. He scored a stylish 36 against the Heat two matches ago, and was unlucky only making 11 against the Scorchers. Patterson is immensely talented and must find a way to get back amongst the runs if the Thunder are to salvage anything from this season.
