PGA: $10,000+ CHARLES SCHWAB INVITATIONAL
We’re back in the lonestar state at Colonial Golf Course where 20 of the Top 50 golfers in the world headline a quality field all vying for that (relatively) coveted tartan plaid jacket.
With salaries priced to allow coaches to select a number of star players, the popular build will be 3 stars, 2 mid rangers and a cheapy and that’s exactly how we are approaching it here.
We’re locking in the defending champion which will be a popular move, then going straight to a player who looks on the crest of a return to form.

Justin Rose ($22.250): The defending champ is the highest priced player for a reason – he is easily the best player in this field. Mon by three shots at -20 last year and whilst it may be a little windier here this year, he plays wind exceptionally well relative to the field. Liked what I saw at the PGA Champs for the most part, think he could be rounding back into top gear.
Jordan Spieth ($21,230):The US sites still scoff and snicker at how bad Spieth has been but from what I have seen at the Byron Nelson and the PGA Champs, the former World #1 looks to have turned a form corner. Loves this course (1 win, two 2nd’s) is a Texas local and is coming off his pest ever putting performance. Pretty scary to say really given how amazing he has been putting almost his whole career. Think the field will stay away enough to make Spieth worth the selection.
Ricky Fowler ($20,230):Our third and final stud, Fowler is lights out the best putter in this field, ranks 2nd in SG: Par 4, 9th in SG: Approach, hits his fairways off the tee – everything we are looking for here. Has the game to win this and is due a good performance. Will be super chalky, likely 40% but he is very tough to fade on this course that suits him well.
Corey Conners ($14,800): If we are prioritising ball striking and shots gained on approach / proximity to the pin on approach, then Conners must be in the conversation. One of the best iron players in this field, the flat stick has been letting him down badly but to have a chance at those birdies on this course players need to keep it on the fairway then stick their approach and that is Conners.
Matt Jones ($12,900): Really like Matty Jones here. Coming off a 5th placing at the Byron Nelson where he raised the dfs bat with a monster 114pts, 13th at Valspar which I think has a lot of similarities here and has not finished outside the top 40 in his last 7 starts. Bargain at this price and will be nice and fresh after missing the PGA Champs.
Boo Weekly ($8,300):Before you laugh, Weekly is a former winner here, is ranked 5th in the field in Proximity, 10th in Driving Accuracy, top 50 in SG Approach and Par 4 Scoring – he is another guy who has just been sucking majorly with the putter (117th in the field with the flat stick!). At min price, Weekly has the course history and the tee to green game to warrant selection here, just need him to make a few putts and he should make that cut.
“This course at Colonial sets up perfectly for him”
