The Late Cut: BBL $7k+ Big Bash Final
The curtain closes on another Big Bash season with an epic clash between two teams who undoubtedly deserve to play off in the Grand Final with the Perth Scorchers hosting the Sydney Sixers. The Furnace will be packed to see their boys in orange, who come into this match after an easy win against the perennial bridesmaids – or chokers if you prefer – the Melbourne Stars. The Sydney Sixers overcame the Brisbane Heat in a thrilling super over, with captain Moises Henriques the hero. Draftstars will be running a $7,000 game for this match, with $1,400 going to first place.

Wicketkeeper
Sam Whiteman ($8,250)
Whiteman is an excellent value option for this match. He will most likely open the batting for the Scorchers, tasked with the responsibility to hit out or get out. Whiteman doesn’t waste many balls at the top of the innings, but as we saw in the semi-final, he’s good enough to get a quick 30-odd. He is better value than his opposite number, Brad Haddin, because he is guaranteed to get a bat at the top of the innings, whereas Haddin may not get to face up.
Batsmen
Shaun Marsh ($19,500)
In his last two matches, Marsh has looked like a totally different player to the one who struggled for most of BBL06. In his last two matches, Marsh has scored 113 out of his 180 runs for the tournament, averaging 93.5 DS points. That is quite a turnaround from a batsman who was totally out of touch for the rest of the tournament. Marsh has the hot hand, which you should take advantage of when picking your team.
Daniel Hughes ($16,500)
Hughes has been brilliant all tournament, scoring 296 runs at a strike rate of 120. That has him ranked fifth for runs scored, and with a good score in this game, he could easily go top of the tree. The best thing about Hughes has been his consistency, his lowest DS points score for BBL06 is 25 and he has five scores of 49 DS points or over.
Bowlers
Mitchell Johnson ($15,000)
We saw the ‘Johnno’ of old rip through the Stars in the semi-final, taking unbelievable figures of 3/3 off his four over. He bowled two maidens which equalled the BBL record set by Doug Bollinger and his spell was so good, it effectively ended the game, even though there were still 30 overs to be bowled after its conclusion. Can he do it again? Who knows, but we all know how much Johnson loves the big stage. He is well worth a punt to find out.
Tim Bresnan ($13,250)
Bresnan has been brilliant since his inclusion into the Scorchers squad at the half way mark of this tournament, taking 6 wickets at an economy rate of 6.5 runs per over. He is averaging 71 DS points per match which is in the upper echelon for bowlers. He also has the advantage of playing in front of Perth’s home fans, which is huge in the context of a grand final.
Allrounder
Sean Abbott ($15,750)
Abbott continued his unbelievable form in his semi-final, taking four wickets as the Sixers beat the Heat. Abbott has taken 20 wickets so far in BBL06 which is clearly the best return for any bowler. How he is not in the squad for any of Australia’s upcoming ODI’s is well and truly beyond me. Hopefully he can put the snubbing aside and rip through the long scorchers batting lineup.
Flex
Ashton Turner ($11,250)
Picking Turner is essentially picking a second allrounder. He consistently bowls a couple of cheap overs of his off spin and will bat aggressively in the middle order. Whilst he will not rip through a lineup like Mitchell Johnson or Nathan Lyon can, he is always a chance of taking a wicket when batsmen target him. He is a great Flex option because of how involved he is in all facets of the game.
