AFL $30,000+ Power v Blues

Ryder, Patrick Well, it seems the Blues are back on the Friday night stage. What an absolute blockbuster this will be!! Watching this game for Draftstars may be the only way to get any entertainment out of this game (unless you hate Carlton), and with $30,000 on offer, you could do worse than to enter this Friday night contest.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $30,000+ Power v Blues competition

Forward

Charlie Dixon ($9,500)

We saw Tom Lynch kick a bag of seven against the Blues last weekend, and I can see Dixon putting on a similar display on Friday night. Dixon scored just the 59 Draftstars points last weekend but managed a total of 96 against the Dockers when he kicked the four majors. In the likely event of a Power onslaught, Dixon should be able to get onto the end of at least a few snags.

Dan Houston ($8,000)

Houston was the leading possession getter at quarter time last week with 12 disposals, but faded to score the 82 Draftstars points. We keep on harping on about this bloke, but as a cheap option, he has the potential to score better than most around his $8k price range. As a defender, the ball may not be up his end too much but when it is, the ‘Pear’ should have the control to chip it around the backline, allowing Houston to rack up marks and kicks.

Midfield

Ollie Wines ($15,400)

Wines had an off week against the Giants, but looks to be in career best form in the early stages of 2017. Ollie Legohead Wines has averaged 107.7 Draftstars points and has reached 30 possessions in three of his four matches. I can’t see the Blues midfield stopping him, as the likes of Murphy, Gibbs and Cripps will be winning their own footy. Has amassed scores of 115 and 124 at Adelaide Oval this season, and should produce the goods yet again.

Patrick Cripps ($14,850)

At just 21 years of age, Cripps has failed to follow the lofty standards that he set at the backend of last season. So far the big-bodied midfielder has averaged just the 89.7 Draftstars points per game. He is too good to continue this slump, and he registered a 115-point score against the Power in their last hit-out (they did win this one though… somehow). In 2015, he had a lazy 31 disposals and 12 tackles against Port as well.

Jared Polec ($11,800)

Polec generally performs well when the team is playing well, so Friday night looms as a perfect opportunity to get the skis on and stream downhill. The Power #21 will be somewhat of a POD considering he scored just the 44 Draftstars points last weekend and hasn’t topped 80 yet. You’ve gotta risk it to get the $30,000 biscuit though, and if there’s going to be any game that Jared gets off the chain, it’s this one.

Zac Fisher ($7,600)

Zac Fisher may not be big in stature, but he made a big impact in his debut game last weekend. Young Fisher clearly recognises his skill, highlighted by his decision to take a pot-shot on the left from 40m out close to the boundary – a shot that went straight through the big sticks. It was Fisher’s defensive pressure that really stole the show however, laying five tackles to go with his 12 disposals. His immense tackling should help him muster another score around the 60-point mark.

Cripps, Patrick

Defence

Jasper Pittard ($12,650)

Jasper Pittard made his return against the Giants from his pre-season hamstring injury, finishing with 89 Draftstars points – the second highest for the Power. I would expect Jasper to lead the charge from the half-back flank again this week. Port want the ball in his hands, as he provides electric run from defence and has a very sure kick. Can’t see the young Carlton defence having much of an answer for Pittard gallivanting up the ground.

Caleb Marchbank ($8,750)

The former #5 draft pick has managed to defy the status quo of young key defenders being irrelevant in fantasy. Marchbank has averaged 76 Draftstars points to date in 2017, twice hitting the 80-point mark. Marchbank may be given the job of standing Charlie Dixon – who I also flagged as an option – but I’d say it is more likely that Rowe or Plowman take the job.

Ruck

Paddy Ryder ($11,100)

With the news that Matthew Kreuzer will miss due to soreness, Paddy Ryder’s ruck assignment becomes even easier on Friday night. One would think Ryder would be keen to rectify his actions that saw him suspended for last week’s match, leaving Jackson Trengove to ruck solo (who didn’t do a bad job, mind you). He has the perfect opportunity to do this by racking up 40+ hitouts and 100+ Draftstars points on the weekend.
