Defenders
Kade Simpson – Carlton – $14,100
With only one score below 90 points for the season, Simpson should find plenty of the ball this week against the Swans. He dominated when the sides last met in Round 18 last season, finishing with 34 disposals and 120 points – his third-biggest point haul for the year.
Jasper Pittard – Port Adelaide – $12,550
Pittard has returned strongly from a hamstring injury, scoring 89 and 98 points from his two games this season. He leads the club for disposals won in the defensive 50 across the past two rounds with 15 – ranking equal-second for disposals won across all zones with 52. Pittard is a kick first player which makes him the ideal choice in Draftstars.
Michael Hibberd – Melbourne – $11,850
Hibberd made a successful return to AFL last round against the Tigers in what was his first game since Round 22, 2015. He finished with 27 disposals, of which 18 were kicks, along with a game-high 13 intercept possessions. He won 24 disposals in the defensive half of the ground, a game-high tally.
Forwards
Lance Franklin – Sydney Swans – $13,350
Expect Franklin to add to his 800-goal tally this week against Carlton. His average of four goals against the Blues is his second-highest against any team in the AFL, averaging 5.3 goals against them as a Swans player from four games. He has also averaged 19 disposals, six marks and 110 points.
Cam Pedersen – Melbourne – $8,500
With injuries to Max Gawn and now Jake Spencer, the most likely replacement for the latter is the versatile Cam Pedersen. Used as a key position player at both ends of the ground across his career, he has pinch-hit in the ruck in the past. He finished with 16 disposals, 10 hitouts and 110 points in his most recent game in the VFL.
Midfielders
Rory Sloane – Adelaide Crows – $16,550
Sloane is currently in outstanding form, averaging career-highs of 29 disposals, 10 tackles and 126 points. He finishes matches full of running, ranking third in the competition for points scored in the final term, racking up 45+ in three of five games. Sloane doesn’t have a great recent record against the Tigers, but I wouldn’t let that deter you from picking him.
Tom Mitchell – Hawthorn – $16,050
Mitchell is relishing his role in Hawthorn’s midfield, racking up at least 32 disposals in all but one match this year. He faces a St Kilda side this week that has conceded the second-most disposals of any team, so another decent point haul is definitely on the cards.
Patrick Cripps – Carlton – $14,350
Cripps has turned the corner after recording a season-high 37 disposals and 121 points against Port Adelaide. He faces a Sydney side this week that rank 16th for disposal differentials, scoring 140 points when he last came up against them in Round 18 last season. His predicted score (118) is the second-highest for the round.
David Myers – Essendon – $8,000
The Bombers will be keen to get Myers into their side, as his direct play and long kicking are key attributes. He tallied 34 disposals and 135 points in his return from injury in the VFL, and with that in mind he could earn a recall to the senior side. Priced at just $8,000 in Draftstars, he a punt worth taking.
Rucks
Stefan Martin – Brisbane Lions – $14,000
Martin’s fitness base makes him the ideal selection in fantasy. His average stint on the ground of 19 minutes is the highest of any ruckman in the competition and five more minutes than anyone else. Martin is the No.1 ball winner for his position and has already scored 121 and 114 points at the Gabba this season.
