AFL $30,000+ Saturday Line-Up

It is that time of week where we put hours of time into our sides in the hope of Draftstars glory. Or perhaps just minutes, depending on the kind of operator you are. We have a couple of one-sided matches on this particular Saturday but we also have some very contests. Yet again, no shortage of options for us here.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $30,000+ Saturday competition

Forward

Travis Cloke ($9,950)

Travis Cloke returned to the Bulldogs side last weekend for his first game in nearly two months and was average, scoring 53 Draftstars points. Cloke faces the lowly Lions this week however, and should be able to get on the end of a few. Harris Andrews is a fantastic defender and probably had Josh Kennedy’s measure for three quarters last week, yet the sharpshooter still ended up kicking six snags. Could be a good return for Clokey

Corey Maynard ($6,400)

Corey Maynard has hardly even played the game but already he has managed to find his way into the Demon side. Maynard has been a manic ball-winner in the magoos, consistently finding himself amongst the leading possession getters for Casey. He is a former NBL player and you know what they say about those basketball converts. Cheap buy here. PS. Did you know Pendles used to play basketball?

Midfield

Dayne Zorko ($15,600)

Dayne Zorko is a forced to be reckoned with at the ‘Gabba. His past two games have culminated in scores of 119 and 181, averaging 29 disposals, eight tackles and three goals. Maybe forget about his performance the game before in Brisbane where he had just 5 touches and 45 points. With the demise of Rockliff, Zorko should be able to pig it out against the Bulldogs who I doubt will lock him down.

Daniel Wells ($12,800)

Daniel Wells was simply outstanding last week against the Crows. The flashy midfielder racked up a monster 143 Draftstars points, with this game alone just about justifying his hefty pay packet. It has never been a case of talent for Wells, only injury, and he looks to be fit and firing at the minute. Comes up against his old side this weekend who I’m sure he will be keen to put a good showing against.

Pearce Hanley ($11,500)

Pearce Hanley has probably not lived up to expectations since crossing over from Brisbane. Persistent injury has meant Hanley has missed almost half the season, going at an average of just 67 Draftstars points per game. His performance last week suggests he may be over his most recent hamstring setback, gathering 31 disposals on his way to 96 points. Should thrive on the wide expanses of Domain Stadium.

Jacob Hopper ($9,950)

Jacob Hopper has been out of the Giants side since May with injury, but comes back with some NEAFL footy under his belt. Hopper has gone at 67 Draftstars points per game so far this season, which is solid for his price. I am predicting a bigger output for him this weekend, though, and there should be more contested footy for him to win at Startrack Oval.

Defence

Alex Witherden ($13,550)

Alex Witherden is fast becoming one of my favourite players in the competition, and also one of my favourite Draftstars selections. Withers posted his maiden Draftstars ton (one of many to come) with 28 disposals and 103 points against the Eagles. The thing about this kid is the confidence he possesses with ball in hand. He loves to kick the footy and he loves to play on from kick-ins – which means more points for us.

Steven May ($9,700)

Steven May was supposed to be in my write-up last week before he was withdrawn from the Suns side. There is just too much value to be had here to say no to the skipper. He posted a measly injury-affected score of 10 points in his last game, causing his price to plummet. While he is prone to average scores, he has eclipsed 90 points five times this season.

Ruck

Jonathon Griffin ($10,400)

The ruck is generally the pick I select first, and I see Jonathan Griffin as a good option here. Youngster Sean Darcy makes way for Griffin, while Jarrod Witts is out for Gold Coast. In the battle between Dan Currie and Jonathan Griffin, I’d say Griffin will win the Draftstars battle. It certainly won’t be one for the ages, but the big Docker should be able to produce more than his price suggests.
