Forget The Footy Show, Draftstars Saturday is back for its 21st instalment of the year. Still the same host, though, unfortunately. There is the potential for a few blowouts for this contest, so take note of players who could get on their skis and fly down the mountain. Or as the kids say, stay woke.

Here is a team you may consider for the AFL $30,000+ Saturday competition

Forward

Josh J. Kennedy ($13,400)

Josh J. Kennedy is in some ripping goalkicking form and is in the frame to take out the Coleman Medal despite missing a month of footy. JJK has booted 17 goals in the past three weeks, averaging 98 Draftstars points over this period. The stutter bearded man will be licking his lips coming up against the Blues this weekend. He bagged a lazy 10 snags the last time he played Carlton in Perth, although he will have a tougher ask this time around against the best full-back in the competition, Liam Jones.

Eddie Betts ($10,850)

Eddie Betts makes footy look easy, and last week was no exception. Eddie’s pocket was in full flight, booting two ridiculous goals from the boundary and another disallowed goal that would have snagged Eddie a new Toyota in previous years. Betts has kicked 16 goals in his past three games against the Bombers, and if he can repeat his six goal, 116 point effort from earlier in the year, he will be an absolute steal.

Midfield

Sam Menegola ($13,900)

Sam Menegola had the opportunity to step up to the plate last week and he did just that. Without Danger in the side and Selwood going down with injury, Menegola posted a scintillating 120 Draftstars points, finishing with 25 disposals, seven tackles and two goals. This backed up his 103 points against the Blues the week before. With Duncan and Selwood out, Menegola should produce the goods again.

Hugh Greenwood ($11,250)

Hugh Greenwood thrived in conditions that suited him to a tee in the Showdown last week, laying a whopping 13 tackles (had 12 to three quarter time) to get himself just shy of the Draftstars ton. This was the mature-age midfielder’s second 80+ total in the past three weeks, collecting 23 disposals and scoring 85 points against the Cats. Should be planted in the guts again on Saturday night.

Cameron Guthrie ($9,200)

Cam Guthrie didn’t spend as much time in the coalface last week as I thought he would, scoring just the 67 Draftstars points from his 14 touches. However, with both Joel Selwood and Mitch Duncan out of the Geelong midfield, he is likely to have extended stints in there, and I see him as a value selection at $9.2k. Scored a ton a couple of months ago from the guts, so it could be a great investment.

Jake Barrett ($8,650)

Jakey Barrett has been a solid performer in his first season for the Lions, averagingf 67 Draftstars points from his 14 matches. A poor return of 49 last week has seen his price dip howeever, giving him some value in this one. Brisbane are favourites (yes, I’m serious) to beat the injury strung Suns on Saturday, and I reckon Barrett could bob up and kick a couple.

Defence

Brodie Smith ($12,050)

Brodie Smith has been in some reasonable Draftstars form of late, showing some unprecedented consistency over his past three games. Smith has averaged 89 Draftstars points from is past three including a 106 point display against the Pies a fortnight ago. I get the feeling the Crows will utilise the speedy half-back at all costs on Saturday night on a deck that suits players like him.

Steven May ($9,200)

I hyped up Steven May last week and he scored solidly for his $9.7k price-tag. May collected 19 possessions and clunked seven marks on his way to a 78 point Draftstars total. He comes in at an even cheaper price for this contest, thanks to his injury-affected 10 a fortnight ago. Should get ample opportunity to take some grabs against a young and inexperienced Brisbane forward line. One word: value.

Ruck

Zac Smith ($11,000)

The ruck is generally the pick I select first, and I see Jonathan Griffin as a good option here. Youngster Sean Darcy makes way for Griffin, while Jarrod Witts is out for Gold Coast. In the battle between Dan Currie and Jonathan Griffin, I’d say Griffin will win the Draftstars battle. It certainly won’t be one for the ages, but the big Docker should be able to produce more than his price suggests.
