Forward

Paddy Ryder ($12,650)

I took the punt on Paddy Ryder last week against Mason Cox, and it failed dismally. Ryder posted a measly 65 Draftstars points against the lumbering American, but has the opportunity to redeem himself at a less expensive price against the Bulldogs’ Jordan Roughead. With a forecast of heavy rain on Saturday on Mars (maybe they should test if it’s a liveable planet before playing footy on it?), there will be plenty of stoppages and I’d expect Ryder to win the majority of them.

Toby McLean ($11,200)

Toby McLean was another that I went with last week who ultimately didn’t deliver. McLean reached an average total of 77 Draftstars points, but it must be said that many of the Bulldogs’ players were off last week. The 21-year-old has been spending more time in the guts over the past month or so, and I expect him to be in the thick of it in the wet on Saturday.

Midfield

Jaeger O’Meara ($11,350)

Jaeger O’Meara lit up the stats sheet last weekend in his VFL return. The Jaegerbomb went off at Windy Hill, finishing with 29 disposals and three sausage rolls while playing just three quarters of the match. It has earned him an instant return into the seniors, where you’d think he would accompany Tom Mitchell in the coalface. Two injury-affected 60’s in his last two games see his price at a rather affordable $11.35k

Ricky Henderson ($11,000)

Ricky Henderson put in a solid performance at Launceston last week, ending up with 98 Draftstars points against the Roos. The Hawks look to have a fairly easy game this Saturday facing the Blues, and Ricky Henderson is one of those lads who doesn’t mind skiing down the slope a touch. Kicked a couple of goals last week, and he should be able to hit the scoreboard on Saturday.

Mitch Hallahan ($10,850)

Mitch Hallahan’s career appears to be at the crossroads. He has played just seven games since moving to the Gold Coast at the end of 2015, including only one this season against the Dockers a fortnight ago. Hallahan was perhaps a bit stiff to get dropped for last week’s game, though, collecting 25 disposals and scoring 88 Draftstars points. His career is on the line, so I’m expecting him to perform in a GAJ-less midfield.

Sam Powell-Pepper ($9,200)

Sam Powell-Pepper had a well-deserved week off after a superb debut year so far. He looked burnt out in his last game against the Crows a fortnight ago, claiming just the six disposals and scoring a rank total of 16… The positive is it has caused his price to plummet, leaving him at $9.2k. With a lack of quality cheap options at our disposal, SPP looks to be the logical option.

Defence

James Sicily ($12,150)

James Sicily has been in some scintillating form across the half-back flank in the past month. The pale, orange haired fella has averaged 11 marks, 28 disposals and 103 Draftstars points across this period, a lot better than his seasonal average of 74 points. He is in red hot form, and faces the Blues this week, which should mean easy pickings for him as the #1 defender.

Zach Tuohy ($10,650)

Zach Tuohy comes in at a pretty tasty price for this contest after scoring two 60’s in his past three matches. Last week wasn’t 2e’s best effort, posting just 63 Draftstars points from his 24 disposals. He had a massive one against them earlier in the season, reaching his season high disposal count. Tuohy racked up a lazy 36 on that occasion on his way to 117 points, so is definitely worth a shout.

Ruck

Tom Bellchambers ($10,600)

Ruck is the position you should generally pick first as it shapes your overall line-up, and Tommy Bellchambers looks to be an absolute Jack Steele this week. Bellchambers is averaging an unimpressive 63 Draftstars points from his past three games, but he comes up against Keegan Brooksby in the ruck this week. Yep, that’s right. Keegan Brooksby is Gold Coast’s number one ruck this week. He is averaging four hit-outs per game in the NEAFL this season. Yep, in the NEAFL. Worth exploring the Bellchamber of secrets this week.
