The Cowboys need a victory to secure their spot in the eight, while the Broncos will be looking to bounce back from a shocking loss to the Eels last week. Here is a team you may consider for the NRL $10,000+ Cowboys v Broncos competition

Front Row Forward

Joe Ofahengaue ($9,400)

After falling out of favour throughout the middle of the season, Ofahengaue looked to have cemented his spot on the Broncos bench until a spear tackle against the Titans saw him miss three weeks. He returns to the side this week and will be looking to pick up where he left off, with big runs and plenty of tackling. The Broncos are light on front rowers at the moment, so they’ll be asking for Ofahengaue to give them plenty of production from the bench.

Herman Ese’ese ($8,400)

With Korbin Sims going down injured, the likes of Ese’ese and Ofahengaue will be asked to step up and play a more crucial role for their side. When Ese’ese was starting earlier in the season, he was regularly playing 40+ minutes per game. With Sims down, he should see a similar amount of playing time, which will give a natural rise in his scoring. Without any great value options, it could be worth backing in guys like Ese’ese to have a big one and distribute the leftover cash elsewhere.

Hooker

Kodi Nikorima ($7,900)

Nikorima suffered his first loss as starting halfback for the Broncos last week and the questions around his suitability for the role are starting to grow louder. He looks flustered at times and has trouble guiding his team around the park, while his kicking game still needs improvement. Despite this, he can produce moments of magic through his strong ball running and passing, and this has allowed him to keep producing solid Draftstars scores. His lowest score since Andrew McCullough’s injury (which saw him return to halfback) is 27.90, while his highest is 78.05. Given he doesn’t even cost $8k, you have to have this guy in your side.

Second Row Forward

Jason Taumalolo ($17,400)

Even though he comes at a cost, Taumalolo is one guy that can truly take the contest away from you if you don’t have him. His running game is the most dominant in the competition; he averaged 202.2 metres per game and he has recorded seven tackle breaks in each of the last three weeks. Coming up against a Brisbane side that has been weakened through the middle, there is every chance that Taumalolo dominates. The Cowboys must win this game, so coach Paul Green will want Taumalolo playing as many minutes as possible.

Tevita Pangai Junior ($7,300)

Pangai Junior has had two of his poorer games in the last few weeks, but with Korbin Sims out with injury he will need to stand up for his side this week. At his best, Tevita is a hard running, dangerous weapon in attack who has the passing instincts to make offloads at the right times. The Broncos missed his spark off the bench last week and will need it to overcome a strong North Queensland side.

Centre

Alex Glenn ($12,100)

Glenn was phenomenal a fortnight ago against the Dragons, coming up with two tries, 104 metres and 41 tackles. He would’ve been close to man of the match in that game, and his good form rolled over to last week where he scored another try and ran 102 metres. He plays 80 minutes every week and always finds a way to contribute, whether it’s in defence or attack. Given the massive fluctuations in scoring of the other centre options, Glenn is a safe bet to give you value for money.

Half

Michael Morgan ($14,250)

This season, Morgan has done what many thought he was incapable of: guiding a successful team around the park without Thurston. His statistical production has been insane; since moving to halfback permanently in round seventeen, Morgan has averaged 56.9 Draftstars points including three massive scores of over 75. He’s scored five tries in that time, assisted on six others and has made a bunch of tackle breaks. Even if the Cowboys lose, Morgan can go big.

Wing/Fullback

Tautau Moga ($11,900)

Moga gets better by the week and is probably the most in-form centre in the competition at the moment. He’s scored three tries in as many weeks, made thirteen tackle breaks and is averaging 170.7 metres in that time. It’s been a true breakout season for a man who was struggling to crack first-grade for a few years, and the Newcastle Knights will be licking their lips at the quality of player they’re getting. His massive frame and precise line running makes him tough to contain, so the Cowboys’ right edge defence will have to be on song to stop him.

James Roberts ($11,200)

There’s surely no one better to partner Tautau Moga than his actual partner in the centres. It’s common knowledge that Roberts is one of the most dangerous attacking players in the competition thanks to his incredible speed and agility, but his statistical production is still staggering. He leads his side in tries, line breaks and tackle breaks, and is running a cool 131.1 metres per game. The Cowboys have struggled defensively in the last month or so, and Roberts is the perfect guy to take full advantage of any lapses.
